Job Description

The University of Illinois is hiring a Director of Strategic Communications for the Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment. About the position

The Director of Strategic Communications at the Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment (iSEE) is responsible for developing and guiding marketing and communications strategies that enhance the visibility and awareness of the Institute's research, education, and sustainability initiatives. As the chief communications officer, the Director collaborates with leadership and various stakeholders to execute effective communication strategies that align with the Institute's goals.

Responsibilities
• Set and implement marketing and communication goals and objectives, including identifying key audiences and establishing performance metrics.

• Build a science communications strategy to promote iSEE's research activities and raise awareness of faculty expertise.
,
• Develop communication products and marketing strategies to promote iSEE's educational and sustainability activities to internal and external audiences.

• Oversee website and social media strategy and updates.
,
• Guide adherence to the university brand and style.
,
• Supervise and create a collaborative team culture for the communication and events staff.
,
• Participate in leadership meetings to support organizational initiatives and develop strategic communications materials.

• Manage professional vendors for outsourced communications and marketing projects.
,
• Build and foster collaborative relationships with internal and external partners.
,
• Represent iSEE at meetings, trainings, workshops, and events.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations, or related field.

• Minimum of eight years of experience in a strategic communications and/or management position.
,
• Experience developing strategy, managing projects, and leading teams to create effective campaigns.

Nice-to-haves
• Supervisory experience.

Benefits
• Competitive salary range of $100,000 to $125,000 based on qualifications and experience.
