Job Description
The Director of Project Management at SunEnergy1 is responsible for overseeing utility-scale solar EPC projects at the site level, managing project delivery from initiation to operation. Key responsibilities include project leadership, schedule and budget management, contract oversight, and client relations. The role requires extensive experience in project management within the solar or infrastructure sectors, with a focus on achieving successful project outcomes. The position is primarily site-based in Oak Grove, NC.
Position Summary
The Director of Project Management is responsible for overall project delivery of utility-scale solar EPC projects at the site level. This role has full accountability for schedule, budget, contract execution, and client satisfaction from Notice to Proceed (NTP) through Commercial Operation Date (COD). Working closely with the Construction Director, this position leads project controls, reporting, and commercial management to ensure successful project outcomes and margin protection.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Oversight
Serve as the senior project leader responsible for end-to-end delivery of on-site EPC projects (20MW–500MW+)Partner with the Construction Director to align field execution with project objectivesEnsure all project functions (construction, engineering, procurement, commissioning) are coordinated and integratedSchedule & Cost Management
Own and manage the master project schedule, including critical path and milestone tracking (NTP to COD)Oversee project budgets, forecasts, and cost controls to ensure financial targets are metLead variance analysis and implement corrective actions to address schedule or cost deviationsContract & Commercial Management
Administer EPC contracts, ensuring compliance with scope, terms, and conditionsLead change order management, claims development, and dispute resolutionProtect project margins through proactive commercial oversight and risk mitigationProject Controls & Reporting
Direct project controls including scheduling, cost tracking, and performance reportingProvide regular updates to executive leadership and clients (progress, risks, financials)Implement KPI tracking and reporting systems to measure project performanceRisk & Issue Management
Identify project risks across schedule, cost, supply chain, and executionDevelop and implement mitigation strategiesEscalate critical issues and drive timely resolutionClient & Stakeholder Management
Serve as the primary point of contact for the client/owner on project performanceManage relationships with utilities, regulators, and third-party stakeholdersLead project meetings, reporting reviews, and executive updatesQualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field (preferred)10–15+ years of project management experience, including utility-scale solar or large infrastructure EPC projectsProven track record managing full lifecycle EPC contracts from NTP to CODStrong knowledge of project controls, scheduling, and cost management practicesExperience with project management tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Procore, MS Project)Core Competencies
Strategic project leadership and executionStrong commercial and financial acumenAdvanced risk management and problem-solvingExcellent communication and client management skillsAbility to lead cross-functional teams in complex project environmentsWork Environment
Primarily based at active project sites with regular travel as neededCombination of field and office-based workRequires ability to operate in fast-paced, high-pressure construction environmentsExtended hours may be required to meet critical project milestones
