Job Description

Atlas Roofing Corporation is seeking a Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) for its Meridian, MS facility. This multi-site role involves 40% travel and focuses on developing and implementing EHS strategies across the Shingles and WEB Technologies divisions. The Director will lead EHS programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a proactive safety culture while collaborating with plant managers and corporate leaders.

Atlas Roofing Shingles, Underlayment, Ventilation & WEB Technologies is seeking a Director of Director of Environmental, Health & Safety for the Meridian, MS facility. This will be a multi-site role with 40% travel to SUV & WEB Tech plants.

Atlas is seeking a dynamic, visionary Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) to lead, develop, and implement EHS strategies across both divisions. This is a high-impact role responsible for protecting people, property, and the planet — and fostering a proactive safety culture throughout our multi-site operations.

The Director of Environmental, Health & Safety provides strategic leadership and functional oversight for all EHS programs, policies, and compliance initiatives within the SUV and WEB Technologies divisions. This individual will serve as a key member of the Operations Leadership Team, partnering with plant managers, corporate leaders, and regulatory agencies to ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while advancing continuous improvement in safety, health, and environmental performance.

Director of Environmental, Health & Safety Key Responsibilities
• Develop, implement, and manage all Environmental, Health and Safety policies, procedures, and requirements for the Shingles & Underlayment’s Division
• Define Division EHS objectives and assist each plant with setting objectives that align with the Division
• Establish a standardized method for ensuring regulatory compliance at each facility - including local, state, and federal requirements (e.g., OSHA regulations and EPA permit conditions)
• Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs, including:
• Incident investigation and root cause analysis
• Emergency preparedness and response
• Industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and occupational health
• Regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, state agencies)
• Air and water permitting, hazardous waste, and sustainability initiatives
• Heat illness prevention and safe work practices near high-temperature equipment (e.g., paper machine dryers)
• Manage and mentor a team of EHS managers, coordinators, and specialists across multiple sites.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional development within the EHS function.
• Drive consistent EHS practices, standards, and tools across SUV and WEB Technologies plants.
• Ensure full compliance with all relevant regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, state/local).
• Provide oversight for incident investigations and corrective actions – ensuring that adequate measures are taken to prevent a recurrence and lessons learned are shared throughout the Division / Company.
• Collect and analyze EHS data and develop goals, dashboards, and metrics to track effectiveness and identify areas of improvement.
• Serve as primary liaison with regulatory agencies and manage external audits or enforcement actions.
• Maintain accurate EHS records and metrics across sites.
• Analyze trends in incident reports, near misses, and compliance data to guide improvement initiatives.
• Prepare and present monthly and quarterly EHS performance reports to executive leadership.
• Partner with HR, Legal, Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance on cross-functional safety initiatives.
• Support capital projects and product innovations by ensuring EHS is embedded in planning and execution phases.
• Integrate EHS practices into business continuity, quality, and supply chain programs.

Director of Environmental, Health & Safety Qualifications
• Minimum 10+ years of progressive EHS experience, with at least 5 years in a multi-site leadership role in a manufacturing environment.
• Deep knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, and state/local regulations.
• Experience in building materials, roofing, pulp/paper, or high-temperature manufacturing is highly preferred.
• Proven ability to lead and inspire EHS teams, drive culture change, and deliver measurable results.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable presenting to executive leadership and external agencies.

Director of Environmental, Health & Safety Education, Licenses & Certifications
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
• Certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or PE highly desirable.
