Job Description
The Director of Conservation Programs at the Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC) is responsible for managing the Young Adult Corps Work Program, ensuring organizational success and sustainability. This role involves developing programs that enhance educational and work skills for young people, fostering community ties, and promoting environmental awareness. The Director will oversee fiscal management, compliance, and day-to-day operations, while collaborating with teams and engaging with community leaders to promote the Corps' initiatives and resources.
About the position
The Director of Conservation Programs at the Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC) plays a pivotal role in ensuring the organization's success and sustainability. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Conservation Programs, this position is responsible for managing the department and site within the Young Adult Corps Work Program. The Director will contribute to the accomplishment of the organization's mission, business goals, and vision by establishing and maintaining development resources that identify and cultivate funding to grow and sustain the Corps. This role involves developing and directing programs that provide young people with opportunities to develop educational and work skills, fostering personal development and environmental awareness, and creating stronger community ties through involvement and services. The Director is also tasked with developing leadership skills among Corpsmembers to contribute to the advancement of all individuals involved. In addition to program management, the Director will ensure compliance with organizational standards and reporting requirements, oversee fiscal management including budget development and tracking, and manage day-to-day operations of the site and department. The position requires collaboration with various teams, including the Executive Management Team and the Development Department, to align program goals with the Corps' strategic objectives. The Director will also engage with community leaders and organizations to promote the Corps' resources and initiatives, ensuring that the community is aware of and has access to programs such as community garden plots. This role is essential in maintaining a positive image of the Corps within the community and ensuring that the organization meets its mission of creating equitable opportunities for young people.
Responsibilities
• Ensure the Corps maintains high standards in the development of systems, procedures, and ethics.

• Work closely with the Corps' grant writer and Executive Management Team to ensure the submission of high-quality grant proposals and reports.

• Execute data collection methods for input into the Corps' ECM database in Salesforce, Survey 123, and budgeting software.

• Direct, coordinate, supervise, and authorize departmental reports, ensuring reporting requirements are met.
,
• Ensure submission of monthly invoices, reports, and quarterly program accomplishment reports are submitted accurately and on time.

• Oversee safety meetings and ensure adherence to safety policies and practices.
,
• Contribute to policy formation and long-term planning for the organization.
,
• Lead the development of the annual Departmental Budget and track consistency using financial tracking tools.
,
• Research prospective funding sources and communicate funding opportunities to the Development Department Team.
,
• Manage the implementation of contracts and conduct monthly financial management meetings with senior-level management.
,
• Implement sound business practices that align with the Corps' mission and Strategic/Business Plan.

• Develop program goals and milestones to build leadership and marketable job skills for Corpsmembers.

• Attend external meetings and events to network with community colleagues.
,
• Develop new programming with other Conservation Programs Directors and the Deputy Director.

• Direct day-to-day operations of the site and department, communicating performance expectations and holding staff accountable.

• Support the Recruitment Team in meeting Corpsmember recruitment goals.

• Manage cross-program/departmental projects and assess structural improvements for synergy.

• Lead staff's internal capacity building and ensure professional development opportunities are available.
Requirements
• Experience in program management and development, particularly in a non-profit or community service setting.

• Strong fiscal management skills, including budget development and financial tracking.
,
• Proven ability to write and submit grant proposals and reports.
,
• Experience in staff management and development, including performance evaluations and training.
,
• Knowledge of safety regulations and practices in a work environment.
,
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with community leaders and organizations.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience in habitat restoration or environmental programs.
