About the position
The Director of Communications for Campus Sustainability & Climate Action at the University of Michigan will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications program to support the university's sustainability commitments. This inaugural role will enhance the university's reputation as a leader in sustainability, engaging a wide range of stakeholders and leveraging various communication channels to amplify the university's sustainability story. The position involves strategic oversight of marketing and communication efforts related to the university's sustainability initiatives, including the 2040 carbon neutrality commitment and the overarching 'Planet Blue' enterprise.
Responsibilities
• Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communication strategy aligned with U-M's sustainability initiatives.

• Engage effectively with diverse stakeholders to build support for climate and sustainability objectives.

• Establish and maintain strong relationships with media outlets to secure positive coverage of sustainability initiatives.

• Oversee the creation of multi-media content to educate and engage audiences on sustainability topics.

• Lead digital marketing efforts, including website management and social media campaigns.
,
• Plan and execute targeted public relations campaigns to promote climate and sustainability efforts.
,
• Implement key performance indicators to track the impact of marketing and communication efforts.
,
• Manage the Planet Blue enterprise website and associated content updates.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a relevant discipline.

• Five or more years of experience in writing, public relations, communications, marketing, or a related discipline.
Nice-to-haves
• Bachelor's degree and 7 or more years of marketing and/or communications work with increasing levels of responsibility.

• Additional training and expertise in climate action and sustainability.
,
• Experience developing and implementing effective direct marketing campaigns across multiple channels.
,
• Demonstrated success managing design, video, and multimedia production projects.

• Experience with educational engagement in a higher education environment.
