Director for the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute – Oregon State University

The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) at Oregon State University (OSU) invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, Director for the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Reappointment as Director is at the discretion of the Dean.

This position provides vision and leadership in directing the work of the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute (OCCRI), including responsibility for strategic planning, as well as forging and sustaining partnerships with Oregon universities, state and federal agencies, sovereign Native American tribes, and with the private sector.

As part of the leadership of OCCRI, the successful candidate will also contribute to the academic mission of Oregon State University. They will raise external research funds and advance the educational mission of the College at the undergraduate and graduate levels through teaching (approx. one course per year) and advising. College funding for this position is available at 0.5 FTE, divided between research-focused faculty funds (0.4 FTE) and support for the OCCRI office (0.1 FTE). The incumbent is expected to raise sufficient funds for the remaining 0.5 FTE via any combination of state appropriation and external grants. For research-focused positions, it is CEOAS policy to consider indefinite tenure when promoted to Full Professor, with tenure granted on a 12-month, 0.75 FTE appointment basis.

The Oregon State Legislature established OCCRI as a partnership among Oregon's public universities. The legislation (HB3543) states that OCCRI is expected to:
• Facilitate research by Oregon's faculty on climate change and its effects on natural and human systems in Oregon,
• Serve as a clearinghouse for climate change information,
• Provide climate change information to the public in integrated and accessible formats,
• Support the Oregon Global Warming Commission in developing strategies to prepare for and mitigate the effects of climate change on natural and human systems,
• Provide technical assistance to local governments to assist them in developing climate change policies, practices, and programs.

In addition to these expectations, OCCRI is required to produce a periodic assessment report on the state of science of climate change as it applies to Oregon.

OSU commits to inclusive excellence by advancing equity and diversity in all that we do. We are an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer and particularly encourage applications from members of historically underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, women, and individuals with disabilities, veterans, LGBTQ community members, and others who demonstrate the ability to help us achieve our vision of a diverse and inclusive community.
