Job Description
Newmont Mining Corporation is seeking a Director of Environmental Performance for its AFCAN operations, focusing on environmental excellence and sustainability compliance across multiple sites. The role involves monitoring environmental trends, managing risks, and collaborating with stakeholders. Candidates should have relevant educational and professional backgrounds, with significant travel required (minimum 10 days/month). The position can be based in Vancouver, Ghana, or the US, offering a hybrid workplace.

Your Impact
As the Director, Environment & Performance, you will drive environmental excellence across our AFCAN operations, which include sites in Ghana and British Columbia, Canada. You will track and analyze environmental trends, ensure compliance with sustainability standards, and implement strategies that enhance environmental performance. Your leadership will help manage risks, influence policy, and support sustainable mining practices.
As Part of Our Team, You Will
• Monitor and report on environmental events, trends, and compliance across multiple sites.
• Lead environmental risk management efforts, ensuring regulatory adherence and best practices.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and communities.
• Provide strategic guidance on sustainability initiatives, environmental standards, and permitting processes.
• Support closure planning, cost estimation, and compliance reviews.
• Travel frequently (Minimum 10 days per month) to support site teams and ensure effective environmental management.
Prerequisites for Your Success in This Role:
• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or related field.
• Experience: Strong background in environmental compliance, sustainability, and risk management (preferably in the mining industry). Leading a team of internal and external stakeholders.
• Knowledge: Expertise in environmental laws, permitting, and sustainability frameworks (Canada & Africa preferred). Regulatory and Permitting knowledge specific to BC, Canada is ideal.
• Skills: Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, and strategic problem-solving abilities. Adept at working with and managing external consultants
Your Work Environment
• The candidate in this role will be based in Canada (Vancouver office or remote), Ghana or the US
• Role will significant travel to operational sites, minimum of 10 days every month.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams in a dynamic and fast-paced setting.

The expected salary range for this role is CAD $149,900 - $214,200/yr and additional 30% Short term and 25% Long Term incentives. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
