Job Description / Responsibility

JOB CONTEXT

Seeking an efficient, detail-oriented and dynamic Director to join CSD-ULAB. The role requires to manage design and operations of all CSD activities. The Director will be responsible for coordinating all activities, ensuring targets are met, designing and delivering all outputs and outcomes of the Program. The person will be responsible for aligning the CSD Program with National and International Sustainable Development policies and plans. The person will be responsible for supervising and managing CSD Program staff, both for teaching and research.

The Director will manage the design of the operations portfolio of CSD projects and programs, working closely with Senior Research Fellows at CSD. The person documents emerging best practices within different climate change and Sustainability Research and Programs and assists to integrate emerging insights into CSD own research project operations.

REPORTING

The Director, CSD will report to the Vice-Chancellor.

MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Strengthen and grow CSD as an international research Center on sustainable development, natural resource governance, gender responsive climate change adaptation and resilience
• Apply for local and international grants related to CSD existing work and develop new areas of research and projects related to sustainable development.
• Manage and supervise large-scale, interdisciplinary research programs focusing on climate change, sustainable development, and environmental conservation across multiple regions.
• Collaborate with national policymakers, regional organizations, and local stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of research findings and policy recommendations.
• Oversee, coordinate and manage the center that includes
• Plan, develop, implement, and coordinate CSD Program
• Establish and implement short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness and effects changes required for improvement.
• -Direct, manage, and oversee the daily administrative components of program(s)/project(s).
• Perform community liaison and outreach activities for program(s)/project(s).
• Develop and manage annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
• Recommend, participate in the development of, and establishes policies and procedures; may serve on ULAB planning and policy-making committees.
• Identify the need and gaps in aligning CSD Program with Government and International Strategies and Policies around Climate Change, Sustainability and Disaster Reduction Program
• Travel to field sites (multiple locations across Bangladesh) to oversee and support operations, get feedback for improvement in designing of the program

Educational Requirements
• The candidate must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field of study (e.g., Environmental Science, Sustainable Studies, Geography, Anthropology, Sociology & Development Studies etc.) from an internationally reputed university.

QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE
• Minimum 8 years of teaching and research experience. This bar may be relaxed for the exceptional candidates having research and program management experience

RESEARCH
• At least 8 SCOPUS/ISI/Web of Science indexed publications. Publications with international co-authors will be an added qualification.

SKILLS
• Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.

LEADERSHIP
• 3-5 years of experience in a departmental / center leadership position in a university or research focused think tank is preferred. The ideal candidate should have the ability to lead the CSD focusing on understanding team members, team building, motivation, conflict resolution and timely decision making.

INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE
• Applicants with relevant experience in industry and consultancy will be preferred.

AGE
• Preferably under 55 years; but may be relaxed for deserving candidates.
