About the role
We are looking for a candidate with passion and expertise in building programmes and ecosystems to support climate change innovation to take a leadership role in Imperial’s green innovation activities. You will work directly with the Director of Undaunted to continue to deliver and develop many of Undaunted’s existing programmes, and to develop and explore new opportunities to deliver real-world impact through science-based innovation.
What you would be doing
You will act as a complement to the current Director of Undaunted, acting as their Deputy overall and leading a number of Undaunted’s activities. As a senior member of the Undaunted management team, the postholder will help us determine and develop our direction and growth within the current and changing landscape of climate innovation, bringing strategic ideas and leadership capabilities to the job.
Undaunted’s work is currently organised across four areas: Building the pipeline of ideas and talented individuals that can become the climate inventions and entrepreneurs of tomorrow; Incubating early stage businesses emerging from that pool and wider; Enriching and supporting climate innovation ecosystems in London, the UK and globally; and Building the bridge between early-stage innovators and the markets and businesses that they serve. This post-holder will hold primary responsibility for running and developing two of these strands: pipeline development, and ecosystem building.
As part of your role in leading those areas of our work, you will manage six direct reports, and a wider sub-team that totals 10 people, contribute to our strategic development and fundraising efforts and will take on responsibility for a number of key internal and external stakeholders.
As an expert in climate innovation, the postholder will also have a formal teaching role, leading modules on our Master’s programmes in CleanTech Innovation and in Climate Change, Management and Finance.
You will work with colleagues in the Imperial Enterprise community and in Undaunted to ensure the delivery of a wide range of high-quality support programmes for the climate innovation community and continued insight into what is needed by our various communities. In this role you will be creative and ambitious – helping us to innovate our role in the innovation community.
What we are looking for
• A track record of strategic leadership
• All round programme and project management skills, ideally with experience of managing a variety of diverse projects
• Successful experience of innovation delivery activities, preferably with an impact focus
• Understanding of prevailing market barriers to cleantech innovation development, commercialisation and growth and how these can be addressed
• Team management experience
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and commercial skills
