Job Description
UC Davis Health is seeking a Deputy Director for the Global South Clean Transportation and Energy Program in Avis, PA. The role involves leading research activities, managing projects, and enhancing the program's visibility. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and experience in strategic development and grant proposals. Location: Avis
Reporting to the Director of the Global South Clean Transportation and Energy Program for the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS-Davis), the Deputy Director will work with leadership to help implement the vision for research and outreach activities for the center. Responsible for leading research activities including defining research directions, managing research project deliverables, and managing researchers on a day-to-day basis.
This position works closely with faculty and staff to enhance the visibility and impact of the Global South Centre at the Institute, including developing partnerships with a broad range of constituents in education; local, state, national, and international agencies; and legislative bodies. Respond to emerging initiatives and optimize ITS resources in responding to research and operational needs. Provide ongoing organizational and programmatic review to identify funding opportunities to support the new center.
Develop and participate in opportunities for writing contract and grant proposals in collaboration with faculty and staff in ITS.Apply By Date :

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, transportation policy, or related field and extensive knowledge of energy and sustainable transportation related research, technologies, development programs, and policies.
Experience with strategic development, planning and fiscal management. Maintaining collaborative working relationships among international stakeholders and University partners including industry, government, the non-profit sector and the community. Experience working with researchers as well as industry executives, state and local government decision makers on technical, programmatic, and policy issues related to sustainable transportation Successful experience in professional development activities, grant development, preparation, editing and publication, educational research activities, and long-term monitoring of collaborative projects.
Experience developing successful research proposals. Experience competing for large-scale private, state and/or federal grants. Extensive experience in coordinating or directing policy, practice, research and/or technical research. Exceptional communication skills to work with a broad, diverse spectrum of professionals concerned with sustainable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. or terminal degree in engineering, economics, transportation policy, or related field and extensive knowledge of energy and sustainable transportation related research, technologies, development programs, and policies. Demonstrated experience working in research, think-tanks, and university settings. Experience working in developing country contexts, especially markets like India, Africa, Latin America. Leadership experience in planning, budgeting, organization, decision- making, and supervision professional presentation skills, with the skills to write for and speak to multiple audiences.
Proven expertise with an established publication record in the areas of alternative fuel vehicles, transportation planning and environmental policy energy, and preferably electric vehicle-related research.
Key Responsibilities 50% - RESEARCH 30% - DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP 20% - OUTREACH Department Overview To address uncertainties and challenges associated with sustainable transportation in global emerging economies across South Asia, Africa and Latin America, the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS-Davis) has launched the Global South Clean Transportation Center, with an associated multidisciplinary research program. The goals of the Center are to generate visions of the sustainable transportation future grounded in technical and economic realities in emerging and developing economies, a strong knowledge base for governments, NGOs, and companies making long-term technology investments, and sophisticated analyses of future policies.
Global studies and detailed regional studies will be developed for the Global South, as an entity and in relation to the United States, Europe, and possibly other countries/regions. Policy advice will be provided to policy makers and in relevant forums. The UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS-Davis) is a growing interdisciplinary Organized Research Unit (ORU) with an international reputation in advanced transportation technologies, travel behavior analysis, and energy and environmental aspects of transportation.
The Institute currently manages major research programs, centers, hosts a graduate program in Transportation, Technology & Policy, and sponsors a comprehensive program of seminars and conferences. It is the only sub- college unit on campus with its own fundraising officers.
