Job Description:
Do you have a passion for wildlife, conservation and hunting? The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is seeking an individual with program management experience to fill the Dedicated Hunter and Walk-in Access programs coordinator position at its Salt Lake City office.
The programs coordinator oversees two large DWR programs. One of the programs involves collaborating with dozens of private landowners to provide walk-in access for hunting and fishing statewide. The other program oversees volunteer opportunities for wildlife enthusiasts, and up to 10,000 participants enrolled in Utah’s Dedicated Hunter Program every year. The coordinator works in Salt Lake to help organize and execute the programs by working with DWR employees throughout Utah. The individual selected for this position also manages the technical and administrative aspects of the programs to track and make access payments, write and submit annual reports, and present recommended program changes to the Utah Wildlife Board. The ideal candidate will be motivated to improve and expand the two programs, while providing outstanding service to internal and external customers.

Responsibilities
As a Dedicated Hunter and Walk-in Access programs coordinator, you will:
• Coordinate the statewide Dedicated Hunter Program with regional staff to help ensure volunteer project opportunities for up to 10,000 Dedicated Hunters.
• Coordinate the statewide Walk-in Access Program with regional staff to provide access for hunters and anglers to private property across Utah.
• Administer the programs by scheduling monthly meetings, preparing monthly and annual reports, and maintaining customer and contractee records.
• Coordinate and conduct training for DWR staff about the Walk-in Access and Dedicated Hunter programs.
• Develop partnerships and projects with state and federal government agencies, non-governmental organizations and wildlife conservation groups.
• Manage the program budget and ensure timely payments and reporting to comply with state rules, laws and procedures.
• Work with the communications team to inform and engage customers of the two programs.
• Provide customer service to Dedicated Hunters and support to regional staff.
• Look for ways to streamline and improve the operation of both programs.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
• Experience managing volunteer programs and volunteers.
• A highly organized and detail-oriented approach to your workload, with experience managing information in databases and files on Google Drive.
• Experience writing for the public and creating reports and other professional documents Advanced Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills.
• A firm understanding of the best practices related to volunteer human resource management and volunteer programs.
• Interpersonal skills that demonstrate sensitivity, tact and professionalism.
• The ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
• Proven problem-solving and deductive-reasoning skills.
• Experience in scheduling and supervising volunteers.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree or higher in a wildlife-related natural resources field, or in another related field.
• Strong interpersonal communication abilities, which facilitate building relationships among individuals with diverse backgrounds.
• Experience working with contracts and payments for the state of Utah.
• The ability to develop creative, pragmatic ways to solve problems and improve processes.
• Experience presenting at public meetings.
• Enthusiasm for working closely with the public and volunteers.
• Three years of professional experience managing volunteer programs and volunteers.
Supplemental Information
Special Working Conditions or Physical Requirements:
• Everyday risks found in a typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
• Special risks which would require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating trucks, trailers, boats, and ATVs.
Other requirements:
• Must be able to pass a background investigation appropriate for employees working with firearms and children.
• Requires occasional weekend and evening work.
• Ability to conduct work for an extended period of time in a variety of weather conditions (snow/rain in temperatures ranging from below freezing to in excess of 100 F).
• Must have or obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Miscellaneous:
• Occasional overnight travel within Utah and, at times, out-of-state travel is required for purposes such as attending meetings and conferences, and supporting wildlife management projects.
• May require some heavy lifting.
• Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00pm – Maybe telework eligible*.
