Job Description
The Decarbonization and Sustainability Program Manager at QTS Data Centers in Duluth, GA, leads strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Who You Are: (Job Summary)
The Decarbonization Manager leads the development and execution of strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the organization’s operations and supply chain. This role drives initiatives aligned with corporate sustainability goals, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. The manager collaborates with cross-functional teams to identify decarbonization opportunities, implement energy efficiency measures, and integrate renewable energy solutions. Success in this position requires strong analytical skills, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to translate complex climate data into actionable plans that deliver measurable carbon reduction outcomes.
What You Will Do: (Job Responsibilities)
• Design and execute regional or organizational decarbonization strategies aligned with global sustainability goals.
• Conduct technical and economic feasibility assessments for projects (e.g., CCS, electrification, fuel switching).
• Lead decarbonization initiatives from concept to execution—including carbon capture, energy efficiency, or low-carbon fuel deployments.
• Oversee and plan multidisciplinary teams and manage budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
• Coordinate with supply chain, engineering, finance, and public relations teams.
• Engage with third-party partners—utilities, contractors, community organizations, regulatory bodies—to enable projects.
• Track project progress, carbon emissions, and performance metrics.
• Report internal and external metrics to leadership, regulatory agencies, or investors.
• Stay informed on emerging decarbonization trends, technologies, and policy developments.
• Recommend and evaluate new technologies—alternative fuels, electrification, carbon capture, grid flexibility.
What You Will Need to Be Successful: (Required Qualifications, Education, Experience, Certifications)
• Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 7+ years experience managing decarbonization or carbon reduction programs.
• Experience in industrial or supply-chain context (e.g., carbon capture, N2O abatement, low-carbon fuels).
• Familiarity with Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions frameworks.
Nice to Have: (Preferred Qualifications, Education, Experience, Certifications)
• Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and decarbonization technologies.
• Professional certification or experience in carbon management, GHG accounting, or energy systems (e.g., ISO, GHG Protocol) preferred.
Other Key Skills: (KSAs)
• Solid understanding of carbon management (Scope 1/2/3), GHG accounting, energy systems (HVAC, electrification).
• Proficient in data analysis, modeling, and financial assessment of projects.
• Strong capability in managing complex, multi-disciplinary programs—budgeting, scheduling, stakeholder management.
• Experienced in commercial engagements—contract negotiation with technology providers, suppliers, attribute markets.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Comfortable presenting to leadership, external partners, and wide audiences.
• Strong leadership and ability to influence cross-functional teams.
• Knowledgeable in environmental regulations and sustainability frameworks. Skilled in managing compliance and reporting.
• Able to facilitate stakeholder collaboration—regulatory bodies, vendors, utilities, NGOs.
