Job Description:

Summary:

Barr Engineering Co. seeks a data scientist consultant to help us build and expand our Environmental Management Digital Solutions team. Your primary focus will be supporting data science, AI, and analytics efforts on external client projects across Barrs practices. When not supporting external projects, you will assist Barrs Information Systems team in advancing internal data and digital technology capabilities.

Barr handles thousands of client projects annually, with diverse data needs. This role is ideal for a problem-solver passionate about data and eager for growth opportunities. You will have the chance to develop technological skills across disciplines and help shape our Digital Solutions teams future.
Responsibilities include:
• Support data science needs across environmental, engineering, and scientific projects for external clients
• Perform exploratory data analysis, statistical analysis, and deploy models to production
• Implement AI-integrated workflows
• Build customized compliance and information systems
• Identify and implement process improvements, redesign infrastructure for scalability, optimize data delivery, and automate manual processes
• Integrate systems and data sources
• Design and implement complex data flows and pipelines for data extraction, transformation, and storage
• Collaborate in cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts effectively
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree in computer science, information systems, or related field, or equivalent experience
• At least two years of relevant data science experience
• Experience with statistical analysis, report-ready data visualizations, and business intelligence tools like PowerBI, Grafana, or Tableau
• Proficiency in SQL and Python
• Experience with REST APIs, distributed computing platforms, and automation scripts
• Ability to handle diverse data types and lead requirement-gathering efforts
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
• Microsoft Azure certifications
• Experience with Azure services, Power BI, Tableau, Power Automate, Azure Logic Apps, and Microsoft 365
• Knowledge of data warehouse development and environmental data systems

A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered, based on qualifications and company needs. The position can be based in Barr's Minneapolis, MN office.
Compensation & Benefits:

Salary range: $70,000$95,000 annually, exempt under FLSA. Compensation varies with experience and skills. Eligible for discretionary bonuses and profit sharing through our ESOP.
