Job Description:
Barr Engineering Co. seeks a data scientist consultant to help us build and expand our Environmental Management Digital Solutions team. In this role, your primary focus would be to support the data science, artificial intelligence, and analytics efforts of external client projects across Barr's practices. When not supporting external projects, you will assist Barr's Information Systems team in advancing internal data and digital technology capabilities.

Barr works on thousands of client projects each year. The data-related needs of these projects vary significantly.This role is well-suited for a problem-solver who is passionate about data and wants to work in an environment with significant growth opportunities.The person selected for this position will be given the opportunity to learn and develop technological skills across various disciplines and help drive the future of our Digital Solutions team.

Responsibilities:
• Support the data science needs across an array of environmental, engineering, and scientific projects for our external clients
• Perform exploratory data and statistical analysis and deploy models to production environments
• Implement AI-integrated workflows
• Build customized compliance and information systems
• Identify, design, and implement process improvements, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimize data delivery, and automate manual processes
• Integrate systems and data sources
• Design and implement complex data flows and pipelines to optimally extract, transform, and store data
• Work in cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts and workflows

Minimum Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, a related field, or equivalent work experience
• Experience: Two years of relevant experience in data science
• Experience performing statistical analysis and producing report-ready data visualizations
• Experience in business intelligence tools, such as PowerBI, Grafana, or Tableau
• Experience with using REST APIs
• High proficiency in SQL and Python
• Familiarity with distributed computing platforms
• Experience building scripts and workflows for automation in production environments
• Proficient in working with and transforming diverse data types, including structured, semi-structured, and unstructured formats
• Experience leading requirement-gathering efforts and translating business goals into executable tasks
• Proficient with creating and managing code repositories
• Strong organizational skills, including the ability to plan, monitor, and follow through on work commitments and confirm priorities with stakeholders
• Ability to work on complex data and systems-related tasks independently
• High level of commitment to delivering exceptional client service
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications:
• One or more Microsoft Azure certifications
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL Database, and Databricks
• Experience developing in data visualization platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or related platforms
• Experience with Power Automate, Azure Logic Apps, and Microsoft 365 integrations
• Knowledge of data warehouse development processes and techniques, including dimensional modeling
• Experience working in industrial or public sectors
• Knowledge of environmental data (e.g., air quality, water quality, geological, remote monitoring sensors) and/or environmental data systems (e.g., EQuIS, GIS, EMIS)

This position can be based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota office. A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office; a remote arrangement refers working primarily from a home office. Remote arrangements will be considered based on candidate qualifications, location requirements, and Barr's needs.

Compensation: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $70,000-$95,000 per year. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
