Job description and responsibilities:

New Leaf Energy is seeking a Transmission Data Analyst to join our Utility-Scale Policy and Business Development team. The Analyst will collaborate closely with utility-scale project development teams to build innovative tools and data evaluation approaches in support of the company's mission: to accelerate the transition to a world powered by renewable energy. Early projects may include building transmission data repositories, prototyping new analytics tools and use cases, and collaborating with the Senior Director of Transmission Strategy to incorporate advanced data analysis into the development and risk management of utility-scale projects. This is a unique opportunity to be a pivotal player in a growing team making a direct impact on the advancement of renewable energy in the United States.

This position can be located in our Oakland, CA, Lowell, MA or Boston, MA offices. We value in-person collaboration and offer a hybrid work environment. Hybrid employees work in the office at least two out of every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and are free to work from the office or from home on other days.

About the role:

As part of a small team focused on grid analytics, you will conduct sophisticated quantitative and qualitative analysis of transmission system and policy data. You will also develop new analytical approaches, organize and track data, analyze and assess study results.

Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Overseeing populating, organizing, and analyzing key data sets used for grid analytics and transmission strategy in markets across the United States;
• Developing new and innovative approaches to transmission data analytics and related tools to advance organizational excellence;
• Conducting original analysis using tools and subscription services, assessing both geographic regions and specific power generation projects;
• Optimizing processes and inputs used to evaluate project feasibility and interconnection queues to drive efficiencies and improve insights;
• Continuously learning and adapting to new technologies and methodologies in data engineering and transmission analytics;
• Supporting data integration into GIS mapping tools;
• Undertaking research as needed for special projects and initiatives related to solar and storage integration and market trends;
• Maintaining the internal utility-scale dashboard for key RTO/TO data sources, for use by a broad range of stakeholders;
• Ensuring that project-specific transmission risks and opportunities are tracked and assessed throughout the entire lifecycle of a project;
• Supporting the creation of policy presentations, comments, and other materials;
• Supporting the management and work of summer interns, as needed.

Requirements and qualifications:

Desired Qualifications
• A bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics/statistics, engineering, or information technology;
• A minimum of 2 years of experience;
• Expert proficiency in Excel and one or more programming languages (Python, MatLab, R, etc.);
• Strong foundational knowledge in data structures and algorithms;
• Basic understanding of database management systems and SQL;
• Demonstrated work experience in the area of advanced data analysis, data exploration and visualization, and consultation with internal stakeholders to create and explain data models;
• Knowledge of power systems, electricity markets, or transmission systems is preferred but not required;
• Experience working in a team environment and demonstrated ability to collaboratively and creatively tackle problems;
• Self-starter with strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience;
• Ability to prioritize requests.
