Eagle Creek Renewable Energy is seeking a Dam Safety Engineer with 2-5 years of experience in civil, hydraulic, hydrologic, geotechnical, or structural engineering. The role involves developing safety plans, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with regulations. About the role: Eagle Creek Renewable Energy owns and/or operates 85 hydroelectric facilities throughout the United States and is currently seeking an experienced Dam Safety Engineer to join a growing, nimble, and diverse team. The ideal candidate carries 2-5 years of experience in civil, hydraulic, hydrologic, geotechnical, and/or structural engineering including a basic knowledge of planning, engineering, construction, and maintenance of dams of various types. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to perform a broad range of work tasks with guidance and support from senior engineering and management staff. A representative cross section of anticipated responsibilities are presented below.

What You’ll Do: Develop Dam Safety Surveillance and Monitoring Plans, Supporting Technical Information Documents, Dam Safety Surveillance and Monitoring Reports and other technical reports as required. Participate in dam safety inspections and oversees surveillance and monitoring activities including but not limited to detailed gate inspections, penstock inspections, bathymetry surveys, topographic surveys, monument surveys, and dive inspections. Participate in Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) annual inspections, Part 12 Periodic Inspections and Comprehensive Assessments, Potential Failure Modes Analysis, and Risk Analysis. Review surveillance and monitoring data in a timely fashion and follow up as necessary to address potential and/or real time issues and ensure the safety of dams. Assist in planning and oversight of small civil construction projects to ensure the design intent is met and the project is constructed in accordance with the plans and specifications. Conduct engineering analyses and develop designs for minor repair and remediation projects. Coordinate and participate in meetings, calls, and project inspections with the FERC and other regulatory agencies to ensure regulatory compliance. Assist with periodic dam safety training for Operations Staff. Review Public Safety Plans and Emergency Action Plans and support these activities as required. Respond to and assist operations personnel with dam safety issues and/or emergencies at projects. Assist with program enhancement projects to help drive continuous improvement. What skills and experience you’ll need: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. The ability to travel as needed up to 30% to various sites of operation. Able to independently prioritize work and manage competing deadlines. Demonstrated skills in successful problem-solving independently and as a team member. Excellent written and oral communication skills, and desire and ability to work with all Eagle Creek staff including operations, maintenance, safety, compliance, and management staff. Self-starter, motivated and innate drive to succeed. Preferred Skills: Knowledge and understanding of FERC and applicable State Dam Safety regulations. Fundamental understanding of structural, geotechnical, hydrologic, and hydraulic engineering concepts and application, as well as some experience in project and construction management. Knowledge of dam instrumentation including various types of piezometers, inclinometers, etc. Professional Engineer (PE) license/certification or intention to pursue licensure. Physical Requirements: Ability to climb/traverse the slopes of dams, some of which may exceed 100 feet. Comfortability with entry into confined spaces such as dam galleries for inspections.
