Job Description

Indiana Packers Corporation is hiring a Corporate Director of Environmental and Safety to lead enterprise-wide environmental and safety strategies across multiple protein processing facilities in Indiana, Kentucky, and Michigan. The role involves ensuring compliance with regulations, driving safety culture, overseeing environmental programs, and supporting sustainability initiatives. The DES will mentor teams and collaborate with various departments to enhance safety and environmental performance across the organization.
Overview

Indiana Packers Corporation (IPC) is seeking to fill the Director of Environmental and Safety (DES). The DES provides enterprise-wide leadership for environmental and safety strategy across IPC's multi-site protein processing operations. IPC has locations in Indiana, Kentucky, and Michigan. This leader is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive safety and environmental programs that ensure regulatory compliance, reduce operational risk, and drive a strong, proactive safety culture across all facilities supporting fresh pork and protein production operations. The DES will oversee environmental and safety performance across multiple manufacturing sites supporting more than 3,000 team members and will play a critical role in advancing IPC's sustainability and ESG commitments.

Responsibilities
• Enterprise Environmental and Safety Strategy & Leadership
• Develop and execute enterprise-wide environmental and safety strategies, programs, and performance standards across all protein processing facilities
• Establish consistent environmental and safety governance, metrics, and reporting systems across multiple manufacturing locations
• Serve as the corporate leader for environmental and safety compliance and continuous improvement
• Understand wastewater operations and related regulatory requirements
• Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
• Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and applicable state and local regulations across all facilities
• Lead regulatory inspections, audits, and agency interactions with a proactive compliance mindset
• Oversee high-risk safety programs including LOTO, Hazard Communication, Arc Flash, Confined Space, and Process Safety Management (PSM)
• Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions
• Safety Performance & Culture
• Drive continuous improvement in safety performance metrics including TRIR, DART, and near-miss reporting
• Champion a proactive, behavior-based safety culture across all protein processing facilities
• Partner with Operations and Maintenance to embed safety into daily work practices and operational decision-making
• Provide guidance on PPE, machine safety, facility design, and risk mitigation strategies
• Environmental Compliance & Sustainability
• Oversee environmental compliance programs including air, water, waste, permitting, and reporting requirements
• Lead and support corporate ESG and sustainability initiatives across protein manufacturing operations
• Partner with leadership teams to reduce environmental footprint and improve sustainability performance
• Ensure environmental compliance is fully integrated into operations and capital projects
• Leadership & Organizational Development
• Lead, develop, and mentor site-based safety and environmental teams across multiple facilities
• Establish consistent training programs and capability development for EHS professionals and plant leadership
• Communicate regulatory updates and best practices across all locations
• Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Engineering, HR, and Corporate Leadership
• Capital Projects & Strategic Support
• Support capital projects to ensure environmental and safety considerations are embedded in design and execution
• Participate in facility expansions, upgrades, and new construction projects within protein processing operations
• Support M&A due diligence and integration activities from an EHS perspective
• Contribute to sustainability reporting for internal leadership and external stakeholders

Qualifications

Education
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field required
• Master's degree in related field is desired
• Significant hands-on experience may be considered in lieu of advanced degree

Experience
• 10+ years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
• Multi-site leadership experience required
• Strong preference for food manufacturing, protein processing, or regulated industrial environments is preferred
• Proven experience leading OSHA, EPA, and DOT compliance programs
• Experience with wastewater operations is a must

Certifications (Preferred)
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
• Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
• CESCO or equivalent environmental certification
• ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 experience
• Lean Six Sigma or continuous improvement certification

Other
• Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions on the site including exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud and hearing protection is required. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in cold, hot, and outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust.
• Physical Demand: The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time, and requires good manual dexterity and stamina.
