Job Description
Stryten Energy is seeking a Controls Engineer in Salina, KS. The role requires strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills to oversee engineering projects, focusing on safety, budgeting, and operational efficiency. Responsibilities include developing control systems, providing technical support, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards. Candidates should have a B.S. in Controls Engineering and at least three years of experience in automation design.
Overview
Self-Starter with excellent problem solving, communication and project management skills. Must be able to effectively direct, coordinate and exercise functional authority for planning, control and timely completion of assigned engineering project within area of responsibility by performing duties personally or through subordinate supervision. Project emphasis placed on safety, budgeting, work quality and quantity and team teamwork. Work effectively with all departments to establish operational efficiency of production equipment, which relate to elimination of recurring equipment issues, continuous improvement, equipment modular quick change and setup reduction. Supports continuous improvements through lean initiatives, automation, modification of existing equipment and processes along with new equipment development.
Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully and individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.
• Responsible for producing control systems and application programs that are safe, logical, and functional according to the defined scope of work.
• Provide controls engineering support to the Oxide, Metals, Pasting, Assembly, Formation, and Shipping Department as required.
• Analyze engineering sketches, specifications, and related data and drawings to determine design factors.
• Provide technical support for troubleshooting, maintaining and upgrading Programmable Logic Controllers and automated processes.
• Build SCADA and MES solutions to improve our manufacturing efficiency and help drive strategic process improvements
• Review product design for compliance with engineering lean principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
• Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments (automation), scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
• Direct integration of technical activities and products.
• Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases as required.
• Control expenditures within limitations of project budgets.
• Prepare interim and completion project reports.
• Use computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop designs.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and Federal OHSA, EPA, and Employment laws.
• Review and comply with Quality Initiatives and ISO/TS: 16949 procedures.
• Will be required to conduct training classes with Technicians to improve our support staff.
• Additional responsibilities as needed to support the team and company goals.
• Hazardous waste training shall be provided to the employee within six months of the date the employee filled this position and a review of this training provided every 12 months thereafter. The employee will complete a program of classroom instruction. The employee shall be supervised until training is completed. The training shall consist of a review of proper management of hazardous waste, satellite accumulation containers, how to review and prepare a hazardous waste manifest, and proper labeling requirements.
Qualifications
Education, Experience, Skills Required:
• B.S. in Controls Engineering, or related field required;
• Minimum of three (3) years experience in automation design with electronic circuit technology (analog, digital and/or high voltage design) and Programmable Logic Controllers. Knowledge required in design, repair and analysis of machinery, electronics systems, programmable logic controllers, analog circuit and simulation tools.
Physical Requirements:
• General walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., and climbing to access workstations and related equipment and processes. Work environment: General Office, Fabrication Shop, and Production Floor.
Equipment Used:
• Must possess required computer skills to properly and effectively perform job. Computer skills that will be required relate to Microsoft office programs i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point and Minitab. Other computer skills required to properly and successfully complete assigned tasks.
Travel
• Occasional domestic travel may be necessary to fulfill business needs and support various projects and initiatives.
