Climate Focus is seeking a French-speaking Consultant in Land-use and Climate Policy for its Washington, DC office. The role involves advising on policy design, implementing climate finance projects, and engaging stakeholders on land-use initiatives, particularly in francophone Africa. Candidates should have a Master's degree related to environmental sciences and at least three years of relevant experience. The position focuses on making impactful contributions to climate policy and carbon market projects.

Job description
Climate Focus combines technical, legal, and policy expertise, enabling us to:
• Advise governments on policy design and implementation, in particular on REDD+ and land-based climate policies
• Develop and assess progress in policy implementation
• Review the effective implementation of carbon market transactions (including the use of carbon crediting methodologies)
• Facilitate results-based climate finance and carbon market transactions.
• Enable the effective implementation of the Paris Agreement and NDCs
• Engage stakeholders from national ministries to local communities, ensuring inclusive and effective land-use projects, initiatives, and policies

As aConsultant, you will work in close collaboration withyour
Climate Focuscolleagueson the following tasks:
Support our team with the implementation of projects with a focus on francophone Africa, including:
• Supporting readiness and implementation processes for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+)
• Supporting the development of Emission Reductions Idea Notes (ER-PINs) and Emission Reduction Program Documents (ERPDs)
• Contributing to the development,implementation and policy dialogue around sustainable land use
• Support clients in developing and structuring investments and programs that are supported by carbon and/or climate finance
• Take charge and/or support the management of Climate Focus projects
• Support the expansion of Climate Focus’s project pipeline.
Profile
• Master'sdegree in Environmental Sciences, Tropical Forestry or Agriculture, Climate Policy, International Cooperation, Economics, Law, or similar
• At least three years of professional experience in the AFOLU sector, carbon markets and/or climate finance
• Strong analyticalcapacities, including qualitative and/or quantitative analysis
• Excellent writing,communication and advisory skills
• Excellent organizational skills, including managing projects, personal time management, coordination with project partners and clients
• Spoken and written fluency in French and English (C1).
• Ability to work well within teams across disciplines and cultures
• Willingness to travel internationally

• A full-time position in the form of a 1-year contract, with possible extensionto a permanent position
• Office to be determined. Preference will go to EU-based candidates who can join the Amsterdam, Rotterdam, or Berlin offices. But alternative office placement will be considered
