Job Description

Mortenson is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for their Solar group in Texico, NM, requiring 100% travel across project locations in New Mexico and Texas. Responsibilities include providing electrical technical support, verifying construction alignment with designs, leading equipment procurement, and ensuring subcontractor understanding of project scope. Mortenson is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Solar group that will provide electrical technical support throughout the entire construction project.

Location: New Mexico and Texas

Travel: This is a 100% travel position, and locations may vary based on the project. Mortenson hires for a career and not a project. When your project is complete you will be assigned to another project.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide technical lead and support for electrical portions of work projects

Determine best layout of collection systems considering constraints (overhead/underground, roads/cross country, junction box locations)

Review manufacturers data for electrical scope (wiring requirements, electrical characteristics, grounding, power factor, lightning protection, generator outputs)

Verify construction aligns with electrical engineering design drawings, including preparatory meetings and QA/QC

Lead electrical engineering design and equipment procurement through submittals, transmittals, and RFIs

Provide technical expertise to all parties involved

Ensure subcontractors understand project scope during bidding and provide electrical engineering support throughout the project

Communicate with local utilities for grid interconnection

Perform loss calculations (100% output/annualized)

Develop one-line diagrams of collection systems and substations, and standard electrical construction details

Maintain relationships with site visitors (customers, architects, union representatives, subcontractors)

Run site work and logistics efficiently, offering improvement suggestions

Build relationships with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels

Lead by example, provide effective coaching and feedback, and manage performance

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Electrical EngineeringMinimum three years in electrical construction management or electrical design

Current driver's license

Basic understanding of construction law and business practices

Working knowledge of NEC code and NE safety code a plus

Basic understanding of construction techniques and project management practices

Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, project, and web applications

Active listening skills and effective communication

Ability to travel up to 100%

(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR 10%, Washington, D.C. 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individuals knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortensons incentive plan.
