Job Description

The State of Delaware is hiring for multiple Conservation Technician roles and a Master Mechanic within the DNREC's Division of Fish and Wildlife. The positions involve technical work in natural resource preservation, requiring skills in equipment operation and maintenance. Job Description

The Conservation Tech series for DNREC’s Division of Fish and Wildlife describes technical work applying natural resources preservation, conservation, and managerial principles to support initiatives and programs. The work involves evaluations and assessments in areas such as horticulture, environmental conditions, and open water management, including construction, landscaping, equipment operation, maintenance, and repair for state-owned facilities, wetlands, and waterways.

Job Specific Requirements

Candidates must be able to follow directions, possess a valid CDL license, and safely operate various power equipment and heavy machinery in all weather conditions. Equipment includes, but is not limited to, dump trucks, pickups, general farm equipment, tractors, cranes, front-end loaders, bulldozers, weed harvesters, air boats, bobcats, outboard motor boats, forklifts, pallet jacks, pumps, and ladders.

Physical Job Requirements
• Ability to stand and walk frequently.
• Ability to drive heavy and light equipment for up to 3 hours per day.
• Ability to bend, stoop, push, pull, and work above shoulder level.
• Ability to balance and climb on ladders or physical barriers to heights over 10 feet.
• Occasional kneeling, crouching, crawling, and squatting to operate equipment and maintain sites.
• Use of both hands for continuous grasping and fine manipulation.
• Occasional carrying of weights up to 30 pounds and frequent lifting of over 50 pounds.
• Operation of various types of equipment including heavy machinery and tools.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions with required protective gear.

Certification

Applicants certify that they have read and understand the physical requirements. If offered the position, a functional capabilities evaluation (FCE) will be required.
