About the position

The Conservation Program Specialist for the Green Building Team at the City of Austin is responsible for supporting the development and administration of residential green building programs. This role involves analyzing energy and water usage data, recommending efficient technologies, and educating customers on energy conservation practices. The specialist will collaborate with various departments to enhance sustainability goals and ensure compliance with energy efficiency programs.

Responsibilities
• Implement conservation programs in residential, commercial, or industrial settings.

• Gather and analyze historical energy or water usage data to determine conservation recommendations for customers.

• Inspect or evaluate buildings and systems to determine energy or water consumption.
,
• Recommend energy or water efficient technologies.
,
• Quantify energy or water consumption to establish baselines for use and need.
,
• Prepare audit reports containing energy or water analysis results and recommendations for cost savings.
,
• Prepare job specification sheets for energy or water improvements and retrofits.
,
• Educate customers and contractors on energy efficiency and answer related questions.
,
• Perform field audits and inspections to determine customer eligibility for conservation rebates.
,
• Coordinate conservation program activities with contractors and ensure compliance with energy efficiency programs.
,
• Promote conservation programs to the public through outreach activities.

Requirements
• Graduation with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Business, Environmental Studies, Natural Science, Planning, or Resource Management.

• Four years of related experience, with a Master's degree substituting for two years of experience.
,
• Valid Driver's License.
,
• TCEQ licensed irrigator or licensed irrigation inspector (or obtain within six months).

• IREC certification for Mechanical, Plumbing, or Electrical (or obtain within six months).
,
• Strong data analysis skills.
,
• Excellent communication skills.

Nice-to-haves
• LEED GA or other related green building certifications (or ability to acquire within 6 months).

• Experience working on multiple AEGB rated, LEED certified, or other green building certified projects.
,
• Experience in building design or construction, including review of architectural or engineering documents.

• Experience working with building technical codes.
