About the position

The Conservation Crew Supervisor I, Option A: Natural Resource position involves supervising crews of inmates from the Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) and/or staff from the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF). The primary responsibilities include maintaining security and providing training in the use of equipment and safety protocols while completing various projects related to resource conservation and fire management. This role is crucial for ensuring that conservation projects are executed effectively and safely, with a focus on the development and enhancement of Nevada's natural resources. As a Conservation Crew Supervisor, the incumbent will oversee and direct a crew of up to 12 inmate members on a variety of natural resource conservation projects. These projects may encompass timber stand improvement, timber harvesting, insect and disease control, vegetative fuels reduction, tree planting, reclamation of wildfire-affected areas, riparian enhancement, watershed and range improvement, wildlife habitat enhancement, park maintenance, prescribed fire fuel reduction, and the application of herbicides and pesticides for controlling noxious weeds and insects. The supervisor is responsible for evaluating the skill levels of crew members, planning and assigning work, and reviewing the progress of projects to ensure that they meet established timelines and production rates. In addition to project management, the Conservation Crew Supervisor will be tasked with identifying problems that arise during project execution and taking corrective actions as necessary. The role also includes compiling data and preparing records and reports that detail project outcomes, equipment usage, maintenance and repair activities, and evaluations of crew member performance and training. This position is essential for maintaining the custody and security of crew members while fostering a productive and safe working environment.
