Job Description

The Driver/Site Team Member at Black Earth Compost is an introductory position primarily tasked with delivering our finished products to residential and farm customers. This is a hands-on position and an integral part of our operations team. Daily tasks may include: driving bulk deliveries, building/installing raised garden beds, hand delivering bagged products, and other physical labor tasks on site. As a customer facing representative of our company an ideal candidate will prioritize road safety, product quality, and customer experience every step of the way.

After our peak delivery season (approximately April-June) drivers are assessed and given priority to fill other available positions within the company such as driving our food scrap collection routes. For this reason we are most interested in candidates with a curiosity for or a knowledge of soil sciences, gardening, or organic farming. We are looking for reliable, self starting, problem solving candidates that aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and take on new challenges.

Main Responsibilities:

-Drive deliveries in company provided dump trucks (non-CDL)

-Complete all deliveries on daily routes assigned through our app.

-Miscellaneous physical tasks including building/installing raised garden beds, hand delivering bagged products, and other physical labor on site.

-Communicate effectively with manager and other team members.

-Be a representative of our mission, maintaining company values and knowledge of our products and processes.

Ideal Candidates:

-Have a clean driving record, and the ability to pass a background check.

-Are comfortable driving a large vehicle in an urban environment (Experience not necessary, training provided.)

-Are able to work up to 10 hours per day most days will begin at 7 am.

-Have schedule flexibility. Potential for occasional Saturdays “On Call” in spring season (weather depending)

-Are able to work outside in all weather conditions

-Have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Candidates will be asked to perform tasks including raised bed installs, deliveries of bagged compost unloaded by hand, as well as other physical labor.

-Are committed to arriving to work on time. (7am for delivery drivers)

-Candidates with experience in agriculture, soil science, truck driving, or any trade work are encouraged to apply.

-THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE ONE WEEK OF TRAINING OUT OF OUR MAIN SITE IN MANCHESTER BY THE SEA. We will reimburse you for the cost of gas.

-MA DOT medical card holder (Required to drive. Black Earth will cover the cost of DOT medical exam for new hires.)

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
