The University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks a Compliance and Risk Specialist to ensure environmental compliance on campus. Responsibilities include inspections, developing compliance plans, preparing reports, and training stakeholders. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Specialist to join its team. As an Environmental Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the university's compliance with environmental regulations and maintaining a safe and sustainable environment for the campus community.

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct regular inspections of campus operations to ensure compliance with permits, regulatory requirements, and effective management practices.
• Develop and implement compliance plans, procedures, and permits related to National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) regulations, including point source discharges, livestock operations, and municipal stormwater discharges.
• Prepare and submit NPDES Discharge Monitoring and annual reports to regulatory agencies.
• Collaborate with consultants during an environmental investigation, remediation, restoration activities, and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
• Prepare and submit Title 200 reimbursement requests to relevant authorities.
• Provide training and other outreach activities with affected stakeholders of the campus community to enhance compliance awareness and minimize discharge of pollutants.
• Review and approve stormwater, erosion and sediment control, and post-construction BMP plans and as-builts, and provide feedback to designers and contractors on necessary modifications.
• Stay up-to-date on federal and state regulations and proposed changes, and advise management on potential impacts to campus operations.
• Maintain accurate documentation, databases, and records in support of compliance and permit requirements.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/experience.
• 1+ year of experience relative to water quality regulations.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to NPDES permits.
• Knowledge of environmental field activities including monitoring and sampling protocols, methods, and equipment.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Valid driver's license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
• Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector credentials within six months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree related to water science, geology, environmental science, civil or environmental engineering, or similar course of study.
• Experience with other major environmental regulations and environmental sampling.
• General knowledge of other environmental regulations (i.e., oil pollution prevention, tanks, RCRA, TSCA, etc.).
• Groundwater Monitoring Technician
• Stormwater Professional
