Communications & Sustainability Officer job at Covenant House Alaska. Anchorage, AK. Position Summary

The Communications & Sustainability Officer is responsible for the production of all digital and printed communication targeted at individual and major donors in support of Covenant House Alaska (CHA). The role includes co-managing the annual Sleep-Out event with the Sustainability officer, engaging current and new donors, and coordinating public relations and communication to educate the community on CHA's services.
Essential Functions
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Covenant House Mission, philosophy, history, and tradition(s)
• Collaborate with the Development Team to achieve CHA’s community presence and promotional goals
• Contribute to writing and updating of grant applications
• Update and manage agency social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
• Update and manage agency website
• Develop design templates and promotional materials for communications
• Prepare proposals for gift opportunities
• Plan and execute Sleep-Out events with the Sustainability Officer
• Collaborate with the Development Team to enhance relationships and create greater fundraising possibilities
• Produce and distribute digital media for special events
• Provide special event support and assist during events from start to finish
• Produce and distribute quarterly newsletters, e-newsletters, and annual reports
• Oversee a portfolio of 150 - 200 donors and prospects
• Recruit, onboard, and supervise assigned AmeriCorp VISTA
• Participate in the planning and execution of CHA individual and major gift fundraising
• Increase donor cultivation and involvement in activities
• Participate in department portfolio review process and maintain organized donor stewardship
• Act as media contact for requests and activities
• Ensure donor information is added to Covenant House’s database
• Engage in Agency programs and functions as assigned
• Oversee the use of Covenant House brand internally and externally
• Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in communications, commerce, marketing, administration, or related areas.
Minimum Experience

Five years or more in public relations, fundraising, and special event management. PRSA member designation is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
• Ability to relate effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds
• Strong communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail
• Ability to reflect CHA’s principles through interactions with donors and media
• Approachable, builds rapport, and practices attentive listening
• Proficient with software products including Microsoft Office, Raiser’s Edge, DonorDrive, SharePoint
• Proficient in design software including Canva, Adobe Suite, WordPress
• Ability to work independently with good judgment
• Maintain confidentiality and have excellent oral and written skills
• Basic understanding of adolescent development
• Manage multiple projects, especially during event seasons
• Willingness to work outside normal business hours
• Possess a current Alaska Driving License
• Have a clean driving record
• Pass background investigation
Working Conditions
• Office setting within the Youth Engagement Center
• Mild to moderate noise level consistent with office environments
• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
• Observe details at close range
• Remain stationary for extended periods
• Access files and office equipment
• Operate a computer and office machinery
• Ascend/descend stairways with and without elevator assistance
• Occasionally move items up to 40 pounds while using stairs
