About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Climate & Transportation Policy Analyst to join our team at the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). As a key member of our division, you will play a crucial role in shaping policies that promote safe, affordable, and sustainable communities for all Californians.
Job Summary

This position exists in the Division of Housing Policy Development (HPD), Policy & Program Support Unit (PPS), Climate & Transportation Team. Under the supervision of the SSM I Climate & Transportation Policy Manager, the HCDR I/II supports policy development, analysis, technical assistance, and research on issues impacting housing, including climate change, climate resiliency, transportation, extreme heat, residential decarbonization, and related subjects.
Responsibilities
• Support research projects at the intersection of housing, climate, and transportation issues.
• Develop communication materials, including presentations for management, literature review summaries, and policy memos.
• Analyze relevant legislation, policies, programs, and issues, making recommendations.
• Represent the Department at interagency meetings to connect transportation and climate change with housing policy.
• Provide support to other HPD units.
• Other projects as assigned.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:
• A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as environmental science, urban planning, or public policy.
• At least 1 year of experience in policy development, analysis, or research, preferably in the areas of climate change, transportation, or housing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
