Job Description

Zintellect is offering a postgraduate research internship at the EPA's Office of Water in Washington, DC. The role involves developing methodologies for coastal managers on climate change adaptation and G.I.S. modeling for estuarine responses to sea level rise. Interns will engage with environmental and policy issues, interact with senior federal decision-makers, and learn about government roles in coastal management. This opportunity provides valuable exposure to climate adaptation strategies.
A postgraduate research training opportunity is available at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Water (OW). This appointment will be served with the Office of Wetlands, Oceans, and Watersheds, Oceans & Coastal Protection Division, in Washington, DC.

The intern will be involved with research and development of a methodology that coastal managers can use to apply sustainability concepts in support of a program of climate change adaptation and trained in the research and development of G.I.S. models to identify the best places in the nation’s estuaries to implement innovative responses to sea level rise. The intern will learn about how climate change adaptation is being implemented in the U.S. and internationally, and will be involved with publicizing that information. This oppurtunity will provide excellent exposure to a broad range of environmental and policy issues pertaining to estuarine and coastal protection, and provide an opportunity for interaction with EPA and other senior-level federal agency decision-makers and stakeholders. The participant will also have the opportunity to learn about the role of federal, state and local governments in coastal management and climate change adaptation, and about the interaction between the various levels of government and the private sector.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and EPA.
