First Street is hiring a Climate Modeler Expert in New York, NY. The role involves developing and maintaining the First Street Flood Model, improving model performance, and managing quality control and validation. Candidates should have an advanced degree in oceanography, coastal engineering, hydraulics, or hydrology, with expertise in coastal flood modeling and understanding storm surge, sea-level rise, and tides.
We are seeking a highly skilled Climate Scientist with expertise in flood modeling to join our team at First Street. As a leader in the field of climate risk data, we develop and operate the First Street Flood Model to create high-resolution coastal flood hazard estimates at national scales.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain the First Street Flood Model
• Introduce innovative methods to assess and improve model performance
• Manage model production, quality control, and ongoing evaluation/validation efforts

The ideal candidate will have advanced degree (e.g., M.S. or Ph.D.) in oceanography, coastal engineering, hydraulics, or hydrology with equivalent experience in coastal flood modeling. A strong foundation in understanding and modeling storm surge, sea-level rise, and tides is also required.
