Climate & Energy Technician

Reports to: Director of Climate & Energy


Non-Exempt, Hourly

Salary: $26.00 – $29.70 per hour


Dependent on skills, qualifications, experience, & location

Schedule: Full‐Time, Monday – Friday (40 hours per week)

Location: Chico, CA


This position will be based in Chico and require travel around Butte County. For this reason

only candidates located in the Chico region, or candidates willing to move to the Chico

region prior to beginning employment with SBC, will be considered. The position also

includes occasional travel to SBC’s office in Truckee, other Sierra Nevada counties within

SBC territory, and potentially California-wide travel for meetings or conferences.

Position Summary

The Climate & Energy Technician will help SBC advance our climate impact initiatives throughout all SBC territory and

especially in Butte County. Our team is focused on implementing programs that achieve significant greenhouse gas

emissions reductions and cost-saving measures for communities and jurisdictions in the Sierra Nevada. We are

looking for a motivated and passionate team member based in Chico to help us advance our portfolio of climate and

energy projects.


This position would work on the Climate and Energy Team, with a focus on energy efficiency implementation

programming (including the Northern Rural Energy Network (NREN) program and the Sierra Nevada Energy Watch

(SNEW) program). The position will help ensure these programs meet their deliverables to assist Sierra Nevada communities in implementing climate action and energy efficiency measures, with a focus on the Chico/Butte County

region.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Climate & Energy Technician position is primarily responsible for providing client recruitment, outreach,

community engagement, facility auditing, data analysis, client management, and support services under SBC’s

Climate and Energy programs.

NREN position elements may include:

● Assist with marketing and implementing the NREN program, including:

○ Residential & commercial energy efficiency rebates – outreach, rebate applicant support, review &

processing rebate applications

○ Residential energy efficiency technical assistance – outreach, home assessments, energy efficiency

saving kits, education

○ Financing – outreach, reviewing & processing loan applications

○ Workforce education & training – outreach, enrollment

○ Codes & standards – outreach, education


SNEW position elements include:

● Develop relationships with SNEW clients: public agencies and small businesses

● Conceive and implement outreach strategies to engage clients with SNEW services

● Develop and distribute energy efficiency educational materials

● Help clients evaluate and pursue energy efficiency opportunities

○ Conduct energy benchmarking analyses and reports

○ Conduct energy audits and facilitate contractor retrofits

○ Conduct greenhouse gas inventories and climate action planning

○ Help clients navigate rebate, incentive, and financing programs for energy efficiency

implementation

○ Facilitate meetings for clients and stakeholders

MINIMUM SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

● College degree or equivalent of 2 years of related work experience in the energy efficiency field

● Experience designing and implementing client outreach and recruitment tactics

● Knowledge of building energy efficiency measures and strategies

● Knowledge of facility energy audits, energy benchmarking reports, greenhouse gas inventories, and/or

climate action planning.

● Collaborative and effective communication skills – oral and written

● Ability to work independently as well as with a team, to learn on the job, and to be flexible/adaptable

● Strong organization and time management skills with an ability to meet or exceed deliverables

● Established analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail

● Ability to develop strong, effective relationships with clients, stakeholders, and team members


EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

● A pre‐employment background screening will be performed

● Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK CONDITIONS

● Willingness to occasionally travel, possibly overnight

● Must possess a valid California or Nevada Driver’s License, clean DMV record, and a reliable properly

registered and insured vehicle

● Must be able to perform essential functions of the job satisfactorily (with or without reasonable

accommodation due to disability)

● May be exposed to dust, loud noises, moving mechanical parts, cleaning chemicals, vibration, and outdoor

weather conditions
