Job Summary

As a Sustainable Finance / Transition Risk Associate in our Climate Change and Sustainability Services team, you will play a pivotal role in helping organizations navigate the complex landscape of sustainable finance and transition risk management. Your primary focus will be on assessing and advising clients on the financial implications of climate change and sustainability initiatives, ensuring they are equipped to make informed decisions that align with their strategic goals.

Your key responsibilities

As a Sustainable Finance Associate, you will:
• Assist clients in developing strategies to embed sustainability in their business operations, risk management, systems, and processes.
• Advise and assist clients on their compliance to local and international frameworks on sustainability-related disclosures (e.g., ISSB, TCFD), including on sustainability strategies, climate risks, carbon emissions, governance, and social indicators.
• Help clients assess and evaluate sustainability-related opportunities related to their business strategy, products, or services, such as related to decarbonization, climate risks, sustainability disclosures, environment and socials risks, environmental safety, etc.
• Contribute to providing independent assurance of a client's sustainability disclosures by checking the accuracy of reported data and statements in its sustainability report.
• Gain an understanding of the political, regulatory, market and community drivers related to sustainability and identify how they might impact a client
• Develop and continually improve understanding of sustainability concepts such as climate-related physical and transition risks, climate change mitigation and adaptation, decarbonization, nature-based solutions, sustainability disclosures, and regulation, greenhouse gas accounting, among others.
• Contribute and support activities towards the sustained prominence of SGV's climate change and sustainability services practice.

Skills and attributes for success
• Demonstrate and apply a thorough understanding of sustainability in business operations, risk management, systems, and processes.
• Proficient in analytics tools like SQL, Stata, Power BI, etc.
• Passionate in helping businesses and the country become more sustainable.
• Able to monitor a large amount of time sensitive and complex client communications.
• Work well in a team environment and can also work independently.
• Excellent communication, research, and time management skills – must be able to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
• Able to think creatively and independently solve problems, and escalate to appropriate groups/individuals when required.

To qualify for the role, you must have:
• A Bachelor's degree in the following fields (or related disciplines): Management, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Applied Finance/Finance, Applied Economics/Economics, Environmental Sciences, Development Studies
• Experience in quantitative methods, statistical analysis/econometrics, and/or data visualization using various tools, e.g., R, Python, SQL, Stata, SAS; MatLab; PowerBI

Ideally, you'll also have:
• Preferably with 1-3 years professional experience in finance, economics/macroeconomics, risk management, development sector, sustainability, climate change, banking or other related functions.
• Relevant certifications such as GARP SCR
• Energy sector, systems modelling, and renewable energy/green technologies experience is additionally preferred.
