Hays is seeking a Climate Change Officer - Adaptation for Southend City Council in Essex, UK. The role involves delivering strategic actions for climate adaptation, focusing on biodiversity and ecological advice. Your new role
Southend City Council are looking for a committed and knowledgeable Climate Change Officer – Adaptation, to join the team and help deliver strategic actions that prepare communities, infrastructure, and services for a changing climate.
As a Climate Change Officer, you will drive the delivery of the Southend-on-Sea City Council’s statutory and discretionary functions (Biodiversity Net Gain) and activities with respect to ecology and wildlife conservation, through the provision of specialised marine and terrestrial biodiversity ecological advice and support.
You will liaise with the planning service to develop biodiversity net gain policies and supplementary planning documents/guidance (including CIL, S106 and planning conditions). You will ensure that biodiversity is enhanced and maximised in all corporate policies, strategies and projects, including the Local Plan. You will liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders on marine and terrestrial biodiversity in the city, including the biodiversity net gain delivery approach.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this position, previous experience of undertaking and or use of ecological assessments and surveys is essential for this role.
You must demonstrate a proven ability to undertake, interpret and scrutinise biodiversity net gain assessments. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to confidently present to different audiences is highly essential for this role.
It is vital that you have a relevant professional qualification to degree level or equivalent experience.
