Southend City Council is seeking a Climate Change Manager to lead their climate strategy and sustainability efforts. This hybrid role involves managing the climate change program, supervising a team, and collaborating with internal and external partners. Candidates should have a strong background in climate policy and project management skills. The position offers flexible working, 25 days of annual leave, and opportunities for training and development.
Your new role

Southend City Council are looking for a strategic, forward-thinking Climate Change Manager to lead the development and delivery of their climate strategy and sustainability goals. This is an exciting opportunity to drive transformative action across our organisation and community, supporting their journey towards net-zero and environmental resilience. This is a full-time and permanent post and is offered on a hybrid basis (blend of working from home and office).

You will facilitate the day-to-day management of the climate change programme, including taking the programme forward, supervising the team and ensuring the sustainability of corporate projects, plans, policies and programmes.
You will managemunications with internal and external partners to assist in the development and implementation of the corporate climate change programme. You will project manage external consultants and contractors as necessary to deliver schemes, including providing effective monitoring and management of performance and developing effective partnerships with service providers.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, a strong background in climate change policy, sustainability, or environmental management is essential. It is crucial that you have proven experience of developing and implementing climate action strategies.

Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills are required for this post.You must be able to effectively manage risks, project budgets, develop and manage project plans, and manage stakeholders. It is also vital that you can manageplex issues, problem solve and establish clear policies, plan resource allocation and processes that turn objectives into action.

You must have a clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
