Job Description
CarbonSolve, in partnership with the Biodiversity Research Institute, is seeking a Climate Change Finance Manager in Portland, ME. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and 5+ years of relevant experience, particularly in carbon financing. Responsibilities include financial planning, budgeting, and overseeing multi-entity accounting. The position involves collaboration with international partners and may require travel, but is based at the BRI headquarters.

Description
CarbonSolve (CS), in partnership with the Biodiversity Research Institute (BRI), is hiring a Finance Manager to lead financial planning and analysis in support of soil carbon projects worldwide. The Finance Manager will oversee all company finance and accounting responsibilities—including multi-entity consolidation, foreign exchange tracking, and reporting with international partners—while collaborating closely with CS’s CFO and Directors. The role works hand-in-hand with BRI leadership/finance teams and with CS’s partner organizations, including Soils for the Future Africa (Kenya) and Soils for the Future Tanzania. The position is intended to be based at BRI headquarters in Portland, Maine.
Responsibilities
• Maintain and build complex business models to evaluate project and enterprise outcomes.
• Develop and update a rolling 12-month financial forecast.
• Lead annual and bi-monthly budgeting processes, including variance analysis and reporting.
• Monitor cash flow, prepare cash flow forecasts, and manage transfers between domestic and foreign accounts.
• Help establish and maintain accounting controls and procedures.
• Support capacity building with foreign partners to produce high-quality monthly and quarterly reporting and budgets.
• Oversee accounting in foreign offices to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Minimum Requirements
• Experience working in the carbon market or on carbon financing.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA a plus.
• 5+ years of accounting/finance experience with a focus on startup or high-growth environments.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial regulations.
• Proven experience with financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to consolidate financials across multiple entities and currencies.
• Experience with Xero accounting software a plus.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Solution-oriented self-starter with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• International experience (particularly in Africa) a plus; willingness to travel internationally for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with international partner accounting, foreign exchange, and multi-currency consolidations.
• Experience building finance processes and controls in early-stage organizations.
• Comfort collaborating across NGOs and for-profit partners.
