Organizational Overview:

The Alaska Center engages, empowers, and elects Alaskans to stand up for clean air and

We advocate for the protection of salmon habitat, clean energy solutions in the face of rapid climate change, and amplifying Alaskans’ voices in the public process. Our sister organization The Alaska Center Education Fund provides education and leadership development for children and youth, and promotes civic engagement.

Campaigns Overview:

CLIMATE AND CLEAN ENERGY: Our “Clean Energy for All Alaskans” initiative advances equitable climate policies, supports clean energy programs, defends against harmful legislation, and amplifies Alaskans’ voices in public processes around energy democracy, while centering those who are most impacted by climate change. Our climate and clean energy issue priorities are; Passing a Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard, engaging member-owners of railbelt utilities on issues of renewable energy and transparency, electing pro-renewable energy utility board members, making renewable energy more accessible through our Solarize Programs, and supporting local climate action plans. Our overarching goal is a Just Transition for Alaska.

SALMON PROTECTION: Salmon sustains our families, our communities, our cultures, and our economic livelihoods throughout the state. Because of this, The Alaska Center works in both urban and rural communities to protect our salmon and clean water. Historically, The Alaska Center has worked on the fight against the Chuitna Mine, Pebble Mine, and helped lead the Stand for Salmon ballot initiative to protect salmon habitat. We are currently working with the Eklutna River Coalition on the restoration of the Eklutna River. We activate our members and supporters to advance pro-salmon policies during the legislative session and protect against policies that will impact our salmon and the people who depend on them.

• Empower and train volunteers to become leaders in our campaigns to help shape and inform campaign goals, tactics, and strategies and ensure that the interests and vision of community members help shape our climate, clean air and water work;
• Help gather and share impactful stories from volunteers, community members, and other stakeholders, and share these through the organizations’ social media, emails, and in donor communications;
• Mobilize Alaskans to take action on climate/clean energy and salmon issues using a variety of tactics: event attendance, 1:1’s, calls, letters, petition signature gathering, canvassing, phone banking, in-person meetings, celebrations, etc;
• Accurately and efficiently enter data into our database of donors and supporters;

Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Experience with community organizing, electoral campaigns, or civic engagement. Experience working directly with volunteers is preferred.
