Climate Adaptation Planner III

Responsibilities:
• Compiling, analyzing, and clarifying information, data, and research regarding climate action and adaptation.
• Analyzing existing climate or environmental management legislation, regulations, policies, and practices to determine actual and potential environmental impacts.
• Communicating research findings to legislators, regulatory agencies, or other stakeholders through written reports, presentations, and other related materials.
• Recommending new or adapted policies involving factors that have the potential to lessen climate impacts.
• Advising government agencies or environmental groups regarding environmental issues through studies, reports, memoranda, briefs, or other written materials.
• Proposing actions and policies meant to mitigate climate change to governmental agencies and other types of clients.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to develop educational and outreach programs regarding climate change.
• Outlining and planning data collection methods to be used in research projects and surveys.
• Collecting and analyzing environmental data including pollution emissions, results of atmospheric monitoring, meteorological information, and soil or water samples.
• Studying data to determine its validity, quality, and scientific significance.
• Analyzing correlations between human activities and environmental effects.
• Researching sound methods of pollution control or reduction.
• Assisting with preparation of oral briefings, documents, workshops, training sessions, or public hearings to communicate scientific and technical information.
• Providing guidance to governmental agencies, advisory groups, other types of clients, and the public.
• Reviewing and studying environmental technical standards, guidelines, and regulations.
• Understanding and embracing Ascent’s core values, and acting and behaving in line with those values.
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Telecommuting/hybrid work schedule allowed within reasonable commuting distance of nearest office. Minimal domestic travel necessary based on internal team meetings and/or client meetings as necessary.

Minimum

Education and Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in planning, disaster/emergency management and recovery, environmental studies, geography, natural resources, physical sciences, or related field with 4 years of experience in preparing technically sound and legally defensible climate mitigation or adaptation-related analyses and technical appendices.
• OR Master’s degree in planning, disaster/emergency management and recovery, environmental studies, geography, natural resources, physical sciences, or related field with 2 years of experience in the same area.

Special Requirements:
• High competence and proficiency in conducting mathematical calculations, using large spreadsheets and complicated models.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
• Strong proficiency in climate action or adaptation planning methods and best practices in California.
• Demonstrated ability to understand and assess complex climate change adaptation issues, methods, and planning mechanisms.
• Advanced ability to develop climate change adaptation plans or related plans that include climate adaptation or resilience strategies, measures, goals, objectives, policies, and implementation programs.
