Job Description

ZeroAvia is seeking a Certification Engineer in Everett, WA, to work with the Electric Propulsion team on hydrogen-electric aviation solutions. Role Overview

Working closely with the Electric Propulsion team, you will work as a member of the certification team, with the opportunity to contribute to the design, development, validation and verification of systems. You will gain experience in a broad range of technologies and toolsets.

You will be integrated into a dynamic and fast-paced development team, overcoming challenges and producing innovation solutions. The successful candidate is self-motivated and energetic, with a strong drive to ensure successful outcomes.

Responsibilities:

Working within the Design Organisation the Certification Engineer reports to the Head of Certification and is responsible for.
• Providing subject matter expert guidance to the wider design team in relation to certification aspects
• Championing the use of design assurance processes and aiding the project and engineering teams with the implementation of these processes
• Identifying opportunities for streamlining ways of working while remaining compliant with both FAA and CAA organisational requirements, and working with the Head of the Office of Airworthiness to implement these opportunities
• Developing the means of compliance for new and novel technologies, including the creation of issue papers
• Leading creation of compliance demonstration documentation in accordance with ZeroAvia’s Design Assurance Procedures
• Coordinating with systems test teams to generate efficient and appropriate test strategy, plans and reports
• Assisting with the creation of Experimental Flight Permit / Flight Conditions and Permit to Fly documentation
• Interfacing with various internal and external organisations as required
• Taking an active role in regulator liaison
• Acting as Certification Test Witness
• Acting as Compliance Verification Engineer within your core subject matter expertise (where independent)

Requirements

Essential Experience/Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years practical experience working in an FAA certification organisation, CAA/EASA Part 21J or Military Design Organisation environment
• Experience carrying out Type Certification or Significant Major Modifications / Supplemental Type Certificate activities
• Aeronautical Degree or equivalent experience
• Strong working knowledge of 14 CFR 21 (or Part 21J) Regulations
• Strong working knowledge of 14 CFR 23/25 (or CS-23/25) aircraft specifications and associated means of compliance
• Experience in compliance analysis and compilation of certification documentation
• Specialist knowledge of at least one of the following:
• Mechanical Systems
• Powerplant/Fuel
• Electrical Systems/Avionics
• Modification Integration

Desirable Experience/Qualifications:
• Previous approval as check signatory, FAA DER/DAR or Part 21J Compliance Verification Engineer
• Good understanding of 14 CFR 33 or CS-E Regulations
• Good understanding of FAA Order 8110-4C
• Previous experience of drafting and implementing Design Assurance procedures and processes
• Experience with certification of new and novel technologies would be highly desirable
• Experience with Polarion, TeamCentre or similar desirable

Physical Requirements
• Standing/Sitting: Must be able to remain in a stationary position for some time.
• Walking: Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Reaching: Must be able to reach overhead and below the waist.
• Fine Motor Skills: Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
• Gross Motor Skills: Ability to grasp, hold, or turn large objects.
• Visual Acuity: Must be able to detect and recognize objects at a distance.
• Hearing: Must be able to communicate with colleagues and clients.
• Speaking: Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Benefits

The wage scale or salary range for this position is between $135,000 - $150,000. In addition to the foregoing base compensation, additional compensation and benefits are available to employees and eligible family members (as applicable) including the following:

💫 Short-Term Disability: Up to 60% of your earnings for up to a period of 24 weeks.

🤒 Long-Term Disability: If your disability extends beyond 180 days, LTD Coverage for up to 60% of your earnings.

🏖️ Paid Time Off: Eligible employees may accrue up to 120 hours per year (15 days) and may borrow up to 40 hours (5 days).

🩺 Sick Time: Eligible employees may accrue up to 40 hours, per year (5 days)

🏖️ Paid Holidays: 12 observed holidays, per calendar year.

🛩️ The Fly Club: up to $2,000 of reimbursement towards flying lessons to all full-time staff
