This is a tenure-track position at the rank of
Assistant Professor
with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.
We are seeking an emerging leader in energy systems, with a focus on renewable and sustainable energy systems in cold climates. Sustainability covers environmental aspects particularly related to net-zero targets, economic, social, and safety considerations. The successful candidate will pursue innovative and independent research with demonstrated excellence in intellectual and scholarly endeavors. This will be evidenced by a strong record of high-quality publications and research impact, the potential to establish an internationally recognized research program, and the ability to attract external funding and foster local and international collaborations. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to providing an excellent training environment for graduate students and research personnel.
Successful candidates will be expected to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in the general areas of engineering and mechanical engineering. They will also contribute to curriculum development, program innovation, and mentorship of students at all levels.
Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA). This will be reflected in their genuine understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by underrepresented groups, their commitment to fostering an inclusive and supporting academic environment, and their ability to incorporate EDIA principles into research, teaching, and service activities.
To be eligible for consideration, candidates must hold a Doctoral degree in engineering or a closely related discipline. Relevant industrial and teaching experience and evidence of transdisciplinary research in related areas are considered a major asset. Candidates are expected to have strong oral and written English communication skills. All candidates must be eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
In accordance with the regulations set for Tier II Canada Research Chairs, applicants must have received their Ph.D. within the last 10 years and be an emerging world-class researcher. Candidates who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree and who have had career breaks, such as maternity, parental, or extended sick leave, and research interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, etc., may have their eligibility for a Tier II Chair assessed through the program's Tier II justification process.
