Job Description

Public Sector People is hiring a Business Events & Projects Officer in Melbourne, VIC. The role involves managing key business events, securing sponsorships, and providing stakeholder engagement support. Responsibilities include budget management, event planning, and maintaining databases. Candidates should have event management experience, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to work independently. This is a 3-month contract position focused on economic development.
Role

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Business Events & Projects Officer to support the delivery of key projects and initiatives outlined in the Economic Development Strategy and annual business plan. This role will focus on managing business events, including Festival, Business Awards, and Women in Business, while driving the sustainable growth of these events through sponsorship and effective stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities
• Plan, deliver, and manage the budget for major business events, ensuring they are completed within financial parameters.
• Proactively seek private and government sponsorship to support event growth and delivery.
• Provide support in sourcing, analyzing, and publishing economic and demographic data relevant to the unit’s activities.
• Offer customer service and administrative support in industry engagement programs.
• Maintain databases and assist with reporting tools and record-keeping.
• Build effective relationships with stakeholders and provide guidance and advice as a point of contact.
• Ensure adherence to risk management practices within events and projects.
• Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers.

Key Requirements:
• Proven experience in event planning and management.
• Strong budget management skills and ability to report on financials.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and engage with stakeholders.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision while meeting clear objectives.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of economic development principles and the ability to apply them effectively.
• Police check
