TERRACON is seeking a Staff Scientist for its Building Environmental Sciences team in Omaha, NE. Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Staff Scientist to join our Building Environmental Sciences team in Omaha, NE. If you are passionate about protecting public health and the environment, and have the necessary certifications for conducting and managing hazardous building material surveys, this may be the opportunity for you.

The ideal candidate will perform standardized and sometimes complex field tests, conduct building inspections for asbestos-containing building materials, and sample painted coatings in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. They will also calibrate field monitoring equipment, assist with radon measurement surveys, and participate in indoor air quality assessments.
• Perform standardized and sometimes complex field tests as directed and/or special inspections as required.
• Conduct building inspections for asbestos-containing building materials in accordance with AHERA guidelines and state regulations.
• Sample painted coatings (via paint chip or XRF) in residential, commercial, and industrial settings in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Calibrate field monitoring equipment such as PID, combustible gas indicator, indoor air quality meters, and air sampling pumps.
• Assist with radon measurement surveys and reporting.
• Participate in indoor air quality assessments.
• Perform report work after field assessments.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
• Physical ability to carry equipment up to 35 pounds, climb ladders, get in and out of basement and attic crawl spaces, etc.
• Oversee operation and maintenance of instruments including testing instruments, sampling pumps, calibrators, microscopes, etc.
• Periodic out-of-area travel for projects including some extended stays.
• Ability to work at State and Governmental facilities. Ability to work at Schools and other educational facilities.

Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline practiced by the Firm, including Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Building Science, or Environmental Science, with 3 years of related experience. Or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years' related experience.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

• Asbestos Building Inspector NE, IA
• Asbestos Management Planner - NE
• Asbestos Project Designer - NE
• NIOH 582 or 582E PCM analysis certified
• Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor - NE, IA
• Radon Measurement Specialist Nebraska
