The Center for EcoTechnology is hiring a fully remote Building Energy Principal, requiring residence in specific Northeast states. Position: Building Energy Principal (Remote in Northeast)
This job is fully remote, but you must work from any of the following states: CT, DE, MA, NJ, NH, NY, RI, VT.For nearly 50 years, CET has helped people and businesses save energy and reduce waste. As a mission-driven non-profit, we partner with city, state, and federal agencies, utilities, homeowners, and business owners across the U.S. to build a just and equitable transition to the low-carbon economy.
CET is looking for an innovative and inspirational Building Energy Principal to lead and drive the strategic vision and technical expertise in the growth of our residential and commercial building decarbonization services. This pivotal role will require deep knowledge of energy efficiency, electrification technologies, decarbonization strategies, and climate policy frameworks. In this exciting role, you will lead innovative initiatives that align with our organizational goals and advance sustainable energy practices across the region.
As Building Energy Principal, you will:
Provide thought leadership on energy-efficient technologies, systems, and decarbonization practices, ensuring alignment with climate policy targets. Stay current on industry trends and regulatory developments, integrating cutting-edge solutions into CET's projects. Foster relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, and industry partners, promoting CET's mission and initiatives. Represent CET at conferences, workshops, and industry forums to share expertise and promote building decarbonization efforts. As an active member of CET's Management Team, collaborate with other leaders to enhance organizational effectiveness.
Provide technical guidance to the Technical Services Department and mentor staff, encouraging professional growth in energy efficiency and decarbonization fields. Serve as the technical thought leader, developing new service models, forging partnerships, and ensuring CET remains the preeminent resource for clients. Advise on strategies to enhance adoption in underserved communities, with an emphasis on equity and accessibility. Participate in travel throughout New England and attend national conferences and training sessions as required.
You will bring the following to this position: A Bachelor's degree in engineering, energy management, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred. At least 7 years of progressive experience in energy efficiency, electrification, and decarbonization, including a strong background in both residential and commercial sectors.
A deep understanding of energy-efficient technologies, electrification strategies, and carbon reduction frameworks. Familiarity with financial mechanisms, carbon accounting, and decarbonization incentives. A proven track record of leadership in energy efficiency initiatives, with a focus on innovation and sustainability. Ability to build partnerships and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, and industry partners. Exceptional problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
A proactive and adaptable approach to complex challenges. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels. Physical Demands/Conditions Requirements:
Must have a remote office set-up with reliable high-speed internet free from distractions and interruptions.
Willingness to travel for conferences, client meetings, and project engagements as required. Daily requirements may include, but are not limited to the following:

Benefits:
At CET, we are committed to transparency and equity in our compensation practices. The compensation range in the job posting reflects the range of pay available for this role. Individual compensation will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.
CET provides you with excellent benefits, including 3 weeks of vacation, 13 holidays, and personal/sick time; medical, dental, and vision insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; and a retirement plan with a 3% company match. CET provides a monthly $85 stipend for your home internet and/or phone expenses. This is a full-time exempt position. You may work remotely or may work out of our office in Northampton, Massachusetts.
