Job Description

The City and County of San Francisco is hiring a Building Decarbonization Associate to support programs aimed at accelerating building decarbonization. Responsibilities include creating gas equipment inventories, assisting with policy development, conducting research, and managing public outreach. This entry-level role offers exposure to green building and climate change careers, requiring both independent and team work. The position is temporary, lasting until June 30, 2023, contingent on funding.
As the Building Decarbonization Associate, you’ll support a variety of programs and policies designed to accelerate building decarbonization. You will assist with the creation of an inventory and phase-out plans for gas-burning equipment in municipal buildings. You will also help develop cutting-edge policies and programs to guide the equitable decarbonization of the city’s residential buildings. The position will include research, writing, and public outreach, and will involve working independently as well as in a team environment.

This is an entry-level role designed to offer exposure to a career pathway in the fields of green building and climate change.

What You’ll Do - The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this position and are not intended to be an inclusive list.
• Support the creation of a natural gas equipment inventory for municipal buildings as a liaison with other City departments, and analyze outcomes to influence future capital improvement projects.
• Assist with research, development, and implementation of data-driven public policy and programs to advance the decarbonization of residential buildings.
• Work independently as well as effectively in a team environment
• Prioritize and manage multiple assignments.
• Support relationships with public and private sector stakeholders.
• Prepare and edit written materials such as letters, memos, web content, and other documents.
• Coordinate outreach, public meetings, trainings, and events.
• Provide administrative support and perform other tasks to support the Green Building program, as needed.

Exempt Employment Status - This position is a Temporary Exempt Appointment with an anticipated duration until end of Fiscal Year 22-23 (June 30, 2023). Continuation beyond June 30 is contingent on continued funding. The position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive civil service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the appointing officer.
