Job Description

The State of South Carolina is hiring a Brownfield Project Manager (Geologist/Hydrologist I) to assist in the Brownfields Voluntary Cleanup Program. Responsibilities include negotiating contracts, reviewing technical documents, overseeing environmental assessments, and maintaining project information. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required. The position offers partial remote work after 6 months to 1 year, along with various benefits including health insurance and paid time off.

This position will assist in the implementation of SC's Brownfields Voluntary Cleanup Program to meet the requirements of the Small Business Liability Relief & Brownfields Revitalization Act. The program includes Brownfields Voluntary Cleanup, Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund, and State-wide Environmental Assessment program - each funded through individual EPA cooperative agreements.

Responsibilities
• Negotiates contracts with non-responsible parties (NRP) for the assessment and remediation of properties/sites.

• Conducts technical review of Brownfields assessment and cleanup work plans and reports.
,
• Directs and oversees site-specific environmental assessments and/or cleanups at Brownfields properties.
,
• Enters, tracks, and maintains project information in the ePermitting database and ensures accuracy of the file management system.
,
• Other program duties as needed.

Requirements
• A bachelor's degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology or geological engineering.
,
• Ability to review and analyze technical documents and files regarding the assessment and cleanup of sites.
,
• Ability to provide oversight of the assessment and cleanup of sites.
,
• Demonstrate proficiency using Microsoft Office suite applications.
,
• Provide excellent customer service.
,
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in a culturally competent manner.
,
• Occasional overnight travel.
,
• Must have a valid driver's license, 10-year driving record that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines, and the ability to drive a state vehicle.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience working with: CERCLA Statute; environmental sampling methodologies; preparing environmental investigation reports; ePermitting.
,
• Knowledge of the CERCLA and Brownfields Revitalization Acts.
,
• Experience in preparing technical work scopes and providing oversight of technical work conducting environmental assessments.
,
• Hold SC GIT or PG registration.
