Description

The Biologist – Environmental Specialist supports water resources and environmental compliance projects in the southwestern United States. The position involves field surveys, regulatory documentation, GIS analysis, and environmental permitting support. Work includes collaboration with biologists, ecologists, and engineers on projects related to watershed planning, stream restoration, and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities
• Conduct field surveys to inventory vegetation, wildlife, and habitat conditions
• Perform wetland delineations using federal and state methodologies and document findings
• Prepare biological assessments to support compliance with the Endangered Species Act
• Assist with preparation and oversight of environmental permitting including Clean Water Act Sections 404 and 401
• Develop NEPA documentation and support federal environmental review processes
• Conduct GIS mapping and spatial analysis to support surveys and environmental assessments
• Support stream and river restoration planning through site assessments and monitoring recommendations
• Provide environmental oversight during construction to ensure permit compliance and habitat protection
• Support watershed planning efforts by integrating field data, modeling outputs, and stakeholder input

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in ecology, biology, natural resources, or related discipline with one to five years of professional experience or Master’s degree with one to two years of experience
• Knowledge of regional plant, fish, or wildlife species and habitat requirements
• Experience developing habitat assessments, mitigation plans, or monitoring programs
• Experience preparing regulatory documentation for NEPA, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act compliance
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience using GIS for environmental mapping and analysis
• Experience using field data collection tools including GPS units
• Ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout the southwestern United States
• Ability to conduct fieldwork in rugged terrain and varied weather conditions
• Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

Additional Notes
• Full-time position based in Albuquerque, New Mexico with hybrid work schedule
• Combination of office-based work and outdoor field assignments
• Travel required for project work, estimated up to 50 percent annually
• Typical schedule Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
