BeBot Waste Characterization Volunteer

The Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup is seeking volunteers for the BeBot Waste Characterization project at Sibbald Point Provincial Park on July 2 and 8, 2026. Volunteers will assist in data collection and waste sorting from debris captured by the BeBot, a beach-cleaning robot. All necessary equipment will be provided, and participants should dress for the weather and bring water. This is a fun and educational opportunity to help protect the Great Lakes.
Looking for something fun and educational to do this summer? Join the Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup (GLPC), an initiative of Pollution Probe and the Council of the Great Lakes Region, and a small team of volunteers to assist in the waste characterization and data collection process of debris captured by BeBot at Sibbald Point Provincial Park!

Date: Thursday July 2, 2026 and Wednesday, July 8, 2026

Time: 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Location: Beach at Sibbald Point Provincial Park

The BeBot is a beach-cleaning robot that captures plastic debris and other litter through sand-sifting technology. From smaller items such as plastic fragments and cigarette butts, to larger take-out food and beverage containers, the very first BeBot in Canada is able to collect a variety of items. It is important to collect and sort the waste to determine the types of items that are frequently making their way into the Great Lakes and negatively affecting our waterways.

All equipment required will be provided by GLPC, and we only ask you to dress appropriately for the weather, wear sunscreen, and bring a reusable water bottle!

*Event end time may vary depending on how much waste has been captured by the BeBot.
