Job Description
SMBC is seeking an AVP for the Sustainability Solutions Group in Singapore. The role involves driving sustainable finance business development in APAC, leading initiatives, conducting research, and developing new product opportunities. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree, experience in financial markets, and a background in sustainable finance. Key skills include stakeholder management, communication, and a passion for sustainability.
Job Responsibilities
The candidate will support sustainable finance business development efforts targeting our clients in APAC. Key responsibilities include:
• Drive SMBC’s growth in the sustainable finance market to deepen our country and sector level expertise and support for customers
• Lead initiatives which involves standard developments by conducting research, collecting, and analyzing information and share those knowledge and insights with clients and internal stakeholders
• Proactively expands knowledge in various sustainability areas to identify and advance new product opportunities
• Develop new opportunities across emerging sustainable finance products, flavours and markets
• Support on the job training and development of team analysts
• Contribute to adjacent and complementary initiatives for our external marketing, capacity building and ESG risk management efforts
Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• Financial markets experience required, ideally sustainability related
• Up to 4 years of working experience research in the fields of sustainable finance, sustainability, climate change, decarbonization strategies, low-carbon transition tech, etc.
• Demonstrated track record in sustainable finance deal origination and/or sustainability research and analysis
• Demonstrated experience in deal pitching, targeted materials development and customer engagement
• Demonstrated contribution to institutional or industry initiatives in sustainability, including project management capabilities
• Experience in evaluation energy transition technologies, transition finance preferred
• Strong influencing, collaboration and stakeholder management qualities, required across multiple departments and countries
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate in a clear and structured manner
• Desirable experience - Public speaking, carbon markets, nature finance
• Highly self-motivated and strong interpersonal skills, genuine passion for advancing sustainability efforts
• Demonstrates critical thinking and challenging status quo with articulation of clear objectives, benefits
