Akkodis is seeking an Automation and Controls Technician in London, ON, to support manufacturing engineering by maintaining and troubleshooting production equipment. Automation and Controls Technologist

As a member of the Manufacturing Engineering team, you will play a key role in supporting the fast, safe, and high-quality manufacturing of products. You will contribute to the transition towards Industry 4.0 and advanced manufacturing practices. Your responsibilities will include maintaining controls and troubleshooting existing production equipment to minimize downtime. Additionally, you will collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on electrical component design for new projects.

Responsibilities Include:

Maintenance and Troubleshooting
• Perform electrical maintenance as required.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot systems, such as PLC/relay logic-based systems and HMI.
• Investigate and resolve product and quality issues related to automated equipment.

Automation & Controls Technology
• Serve as a department resource for the development and implementation of automation systems.
• Ensure that fixtures and workstations are designed for efficient and safe production.
• Implement quality and efficiency improvements for existing manufacturing lines.
• Participate in validation and verification activities for new and modified products and processes.
• Prepare all necessary process documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures, and process control techniques.
• Create documentation for electrical drawings and design concepts.
• Develop training programs for assembly skills.

Project Management
• Lead electrical design projects, such as line expansions and machine modifications, for manufacturing engineering.
• Manage electrical utility projects for facility and grounds maintenance.

Health & Safety
• Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, including the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures, such as maintaining a neat work environment and wearing prescribed PPE.
• Establish programs to improve industrial health and safety, and identify and address safety hazards.
• Apply knowledge of electrical safety codes to industrial wiring and power distribution.

Qualifications:
• Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., pharmaceuticals, aerospace) is an asset.
• Proficiency with PLC and HMI systems design, programming, commissioning, and start-up, including system hardware selection, I/O panels, subsystems layout, and wiring.
• Strong analytical, technical, problem-solving, research, and teamwork skills.
• Computer proficiency, including:
• AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks 3D CAD
• MS Excel (advanced)
• Macro programming
• MS Word
• Programming languages such as VBA, C++, LABVIEW, or similar
• PLC programming (e.g., Allen Bradley, Siemens, Panasonic)
• Valid Industrial Electrician License is an asset.
• Familiarity with pneumatic machinery is an asset.
• Working knowledge of LEAN manufacturing and Design of Experiment methodology is an asset.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize based on business needs.
