Job Description
The State of Colorado is hiring an Environmental Health and Life Safety Support Technician for the Auraria Campus in Denver. This position ensures compliance with health and safety regulations, manages hazardous waste, trains staff on safety practices, and participates in safety committees. Candidates need a high school diploma and a valid Colorado driver license. The role offers excellent benefits but is not remote, requiring on-campus presence.

Job Summary:
Our Life Safety and Environmental, Health and Safety department is to assure the health and safety of the Auraria Campus
staff, students, and visitors and protection of the land, air, and waters, as outlined in the Auraria Campus mission statement. This unit
is responsible for maintaining local, state and federal compliance requirements associated with environmental, health, and
safety (EH&S) rules, regulations, codes and standards. This unit is responsible for the following: properly collects, stores,
and disposes of the hazardous chemical, biological, and electronic waste streams across campus; assists in campus
recycling programs; trains Auraria Campus staff on safe work practices; identify and corrects workplace safety hazards, maintains
safety equipment and personal protective equipment; and coordinates laboratory safety practices with institutional programs.
This position provides compliance assistance and regulatory maintenance functions for the EH&LS Department. This position
also supports and participates in all EH&S related activities on campus, including safety committees and EH&S training
events.
Essential Functions:
Information Database and First Aid/Life Safety Equipment Management:
• Provides database management functions and supports the inspection compliance aspects for the EH&S Department for the tracking and monitoring of regulated facility equipment (i.e. SPCC regulated containers), AEDs, fire extinguishers, emergency showers, and eyewash stations via databases and/or building automation systems.
• Tracks EH&S department safety and monitoring equipment, researches instrument maintenance requirements, and implements and manages calibration schedules
• Interacts with the Auraria Campus projects to capture newly installed equipment tracked via EH&S database systems.
Safety Committees, EH&:S Training, and other:
• Supports and participates in all Auraria Campus Safety Committees, Laboratory Safety Committees, and EH&S training events.
• Assists in providing campus interpretation of environmental, health, and safety rules and regulations.
• Performs other duties as assigned (i.e. assist with snow removal)
Minimum Qualifications:
• High School diploma or GED.
• Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
• Valid and unencumbered Colorado driver license.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of building systems.
• Experience in auditing spaces.
• Previous compliance work.
• Experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
Conditions of Employment:
• Must maintain a valid and unencumbered Colorado driver license.
• Please note that if offered employment, candidates will be required to furnish a copy of the motor vehicle report (MVR) as part of the background check process.
• Must take and pass the DFD Portable Fire Extinguishing Apprentice License with plans to become a journeyman within the first three months of hire.
