A confidential conservation firm is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Associate Objects Conservator to join its team at a 6,000 sq. ft. facility in Los Angeles, California. The facility includes dedicated office, laboratory, and warehouse spaces. This is a permanent, full-time position offering a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and relocation assistance.

Position Overview

The Associate Objects Conservator will be responsible for the conservation of a wide range of objects, both in-studio and on-site. Responsibilities include:
• Treatment, examination, documentation, and technical analysis of objects
• Cost estimating, project and technician management
• Research and material studies
• Conservation of outdoor sculptures and public artworks, including murals and architectural elements
• Cross-disciplinary collaboration with other conservation teams
• Occasional travel (up to two weeks at a time) based on project requirements

Required Qualifications
• Master's degree from a recognized graduate conservation training program
• Minimum of 3-5 years of post-graduate experience preferred (exceptional candidates with 1-2 years will be considered)
• Strong project management and organizational skills
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities
• Proficiency in the treatment of a wide variety of historical materials, including metals, ceramics, stone, and painted surfaces
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments
• Strong in-painting and hand skills
• Physical ability to perform tasks in a variety of climates and settings

Preferred Qualifications
• Professional Associate status with the American Institute for Conservation (AIC), or eligibility and willingness to obtain within one year
• Experience with contemporary and modern materials (e.g., plastics, time-based media)
• Supervisory or mentoring experience in conservation settings
• Research experience in contemporary art conservation issues
• Familiarity with modern documentation and research techniques
• Photography skills for conservation documentation
• Knowledge of art history and cultural materials

Technical And Physical Requirements
• Proficiency with MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Comfortable working at heights (e.g., ladders, scaffolding)
• Ability to sit/stand for extended periods and perform repetitive hand/arm motions
• Valid U.S. driver's license and access to a personal vehicle
• Willingness to travel for up to two weeks at a time (generally no more than once per month)
• Ability to pass background checks and/or drug screenings as required by clients
• Legal authorization to work in the United States (visa sponsorship is not available)

Desirable Skills (Not Required)
• Operation of aerial lifts, power tools, and conservation equipment
• Airbrushing, patination, woodworking, and other manual skills
