Job Description
Signal Energy is seeking an Associate Civil Engineer to lead technical work and assist in engineering management for projects from RFP receipt to IFC plan sets. Responsibilities include coordinating design documentation, managing Requests for Information, and ensuring project efficiency. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, 3+ years of experience, and proficiency in Civil3D. The position can be remote or based in Chattanooga, TN, with occasional travel.
Signal Energy’s Civil Engineer leads all technical work and assists in engineering management for assigned projects from RFP receipt through Issued for Construction (“IFC”) plan sets. The Civil Engineer is responsible for understanding design criteria and coordinating internal and external Engineers of Record (“EOR”), with an understanding of impacts to other disciplines to ensure development of complete, cohesive design documentation that clearly communicates how each project should be built. This role is responsible for driving Signal Energy’s basis of design through the IFC plan sets to ensure our detailed designs meet or exceed scope, schedule, budget and constructability expectations.

Works closely with: Clients, EORs, Suppliers, Business Development, Estimating, Project Mangers, Field Operations, and Procurement
Responsibilities And Accountabilities
• Represent Signal Energy from a technical perspective to clients, EORs, permitting authorities and Suppliers
• Review, understand, and work in accordance with the SOW, site studies/conditions, permitting processes/approvals, commissioning / performance testing requirements, budget and schedule
• Day-to-day primary focus on plan and report production
• Steward detailed design, manage Requests for Information, perform quality checks, and drive value engineering efforts
• Review and manage design documentation for civil and coordinating with various disciplines (survey, geotechnical, environmental, electrical, structural, SCADA/DAS, BESS, HV, etc.) to ensure a comprehensive, coordinated and coherent design
• Plan, design and coordinate various permitting and AHJ packages to achieve goals for timely project approvals, focusing on site planning, entitlements, grading, drainage, and stormwater management design
• Seek out and capitalize on cost and time saving opportunities to drive project efficiency and value
• Stay up to date on new and innovative technology and integrate concepts into design plans
Attributes and Competencies
• Must be comfortable with the technical aspects of the role, as well as client and management interactions
• Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, including ability to write clear and detailed technical reports, RFI responses, presentations, and emails
• Must be a supportive team member, able to work in a collaborative environment as well as work on self-directed independent projects
• Must be self-motivated with the ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines
• Must be proficient in Civil3D
• Driven by desire to continuously improve process, tools and technology
• Operate with positivity and enthusiasm, especially in high-stress situations
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil Engineering preferred) from an accredited university
• 3+ years’ experience in planning, design, and/or operations of photovoltaic systems
• Engineering in Training (EIT) certification preferred
Work Environment
• Work will be conducted remote or from the Chattanooga, TN office
• Civil Engineers reports directly to the Principal Engineer
• The role will require occasional travel for both office meetings and field visits to active construction sites, up to 10%.
